The Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line running through Quang Nam is 91.5km long. On this railway line, there are 59 level crossings (24 guarded level crossings, 35 automatic warning level crossings with automatic barriers) and 61 pedestrian crossings (illegal level crossings).

Chief of Office of Traffic Safety Committee of Quang Nam province - Mr. Phan Duc Tien said that recently, the Traffic Safety Committee of the province, Department of Construction has coordinated with Quang Nam - Da Nang Railway Joint Stock Company, Railway Safety Management Department II and functional agencies to organize inspections of self-opened level crossings and paths to strengthen the work of ensuring railway traffic safety.

In 2024 alone, Quang Nam - Da Nang Railway Joint Stock Company has installed 116 "Attention to Trains" signs; narrowed 4 self-opened crossings, and eliminated 8 other self-opened crossings. In addition, this enterprise proactively coordinated with local authorities to implement fences to eliminate self-opened crossings; opened professional training courses for staff on guard duty at self-opened crossings managed by the locality. Supported the provision of books and defense tools (flags, lights, whistles, fireworks) for guard points.

Previously, Quang Nam province had allocated funds to support the locality in assigning guards to ensure traffic safety at 9 self-opened crossings. In addition to narrowing 4 self-opened crossings and eliminating 8 other self-opened crossings, Quang Nam still has many self-opened crossings with people and vehicles crossing the railway. At these self-opened crossings, people crossing without paying attention will be in great danger if they encounter an approaching train. There have been many tragic accidents due to the carelessness and subjectivity of road traffic participants, not to mention seriously affecting the safety of trains carrying hundreds of passengers.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), Vietnam Railways Corporation organized the operation of a pair of trains named "Reunification Train" including train SE1 departing from Hanoi station at 20:55 on April 29, 2025 and train SE4 departing from Saigon station at 19:00 on April 29, 2025. The journey of these two trains will travel on the North-South railway through Quang Nam, expected to be around 10:25 to 15:00 on April 30, 2025.

The operation of the “Reunification Train” aims to recreate the historic train connecting the North and the South; to propagate and educate revolutionary traditions, and to arouse national pride. To ensure absolute safety and smooth operation of the train, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee has requested agencies, units, and localities to widely and continuously propagate the law on railway traffic safety and order.

The Provincial Traffic Safety Committee also requested the Provincial Police to direct functional forces to increase patrols and controls at hot spots, densely populated areas, and road-railway intersections. Closely coordinate with railway units and local People's Committees to ensure safety at self-opened crossings; promptly detect, respond to, and quickly handle arising situations.

People must not destroy railway works or vehicles. Prevent trains from running, arbitrarily signal or use equipment to stop trains, except in cases where an incident causing loss of railway traffic safety is detected. Do not graze animals or hold markets on railways, within the protection range of railway works and railway traffic safety corridors...

Receiving information about the "Unification Train" passing through Quang Nam, Ms. Pham Thi Lua - a guard at the Nui Tra crossing (railway route km894+800, Tam Nghia commune, Nui Thanh district) said she was looking forward to this event. At the crossing where she is guarding, there are many vehicles, especially trucks carrying goods passing by. Therefore, during her shift, she will concentrate on performing her assigned tasks well, to contribute to ensuring the safety of the train passing through.
