Investing in building OCOP certified products

Mr. Nguyen Thien Khiem, co-founder and Deputy Director of Vinseed Biotechnology Company Limited (Cam Le district) said that currently the company's "Dr. Trung" brand is present on the market with 30 product lines of cordyceps, herbal tea, bird's nest water, honey... The company has 2 products recognized as 4-star OCOP at the city level since 2021, which are Dr. Trung freeze-dried cordyceps and Dr. Trung cordyceps honey.

“With this certification, we can easily access sales channels and increase brand awareness. The company has many sales distribution channels such as: e-commerce platforms, more than 50 agents nationwide, retail via social networks and supermarkets, specialty stores. We are orienting to develop raw material areas and build new factories in Cam Le Industrial Park, thereby forming international standards to ensure export conditions; at the same time, working with foreign partners to promote trade in markets such as the US, Europe, Australia, etc. Determining the potential of widely used cordyceps, we believe we will successfully export to these markets,” Mr. Khiem informed.

Meanwhile, the baked coconut cake products of My Phuong Food Company Limited (Hoa Vang district) have gradually conquered the international market by exporting to more than 10 countries such as: China, Korea, Japan, USA, Poland, Russia, UK... The company has a factory area of over 1,000m2, with a capacity of 1,500 tons of products/year. Recently, My Phuong Food has developed a new product line including: Cocool durian coconut cake, Cocool coconut cake, Cocool mango coconut cake, Cocool coffee coconut cake to diversify its products.

These are also 4 products that have just been evaluated and classified as 4-star OCOP by the city in 2025. Ms. Mai Thi Y Nhi, Director of My Phuong Food Company Limited shared: “This time we launched a product line with a more changed and improved taste, method of making, and formula. In particular, the packaging of this product line has not been available on the market, which is very convenient for export.

On the other hand, we continue to invest in infrastructure, modern machinery with a factory of more than 3,000m2 and improve each stage to ensure product quality and output; innovate products according to customer needs such as less sweet, softer. Because in export, many foreign partners ask the question, have our products been certified OCOP? Therefore, it can be seen how important achieving OCOP certification is to each entity.

Maximum support for OCOP subjects

In recent times, departments, branches, and localities have implemented the OCOP program in a focused and key direction, not chasing after achievements and especially promoting support activities for the best development of OCOP subjects. Cam Le District has a total of 18 OCOP products, of which 11 products have 4 stars and 7 products have 3 stars.

Compared to other localities, Cam Le district ranks second in the city in terms of the number of products certified by OCOP. The locality focuses on supporting OCOP entities from the registration stage such as building profiles, declaring quality, printing product traceability stamps, registering product barcodes, building product stories, documenting product stories, etc.

In the district, 3 points of display and sale of agricultural products, specialties and OCOP products have also been established. In the coming time, the district strives to have about 6-8 new OCOP products recognized with 3 stars or more. In addition, the OCOP program in Lien Chieu district is developing in a sustainable and in-depth direction; not only increasing the number of products but also improving quality, expanding product lines and participating subjects.

In 2023, the district had 7 OCOP products; by 2024, there had been remarkable growth with a total of 16 OCOP products. Initially, the district mainly had traditional products such as fish sauce, tre, wine, etc., but has now expanded to many new areas such as processed foods, natural products, and circular agriculture. In management and support work, the district has proactively issued plans, implemented a systematic OCOP product orientation, increased training, and guided subjects to complete documents, traceability, packaging, and labels, etc.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Vu Thi Bich Hau, up to now, the city has nearly 150 products evaluated and classified as OCOP. On that basis, OCOP entities have accessed the city's support policies to invest and improve product quality. This is one of the successes and effectiveness of the OCOP program after its implementation in the city.

However, the subjects need to proactively link up to build standard raw material areas, meet production needs, and ensure traceability along the chain from raw materials to products. In addition, continue to invest in and complete advanced technology and equipment processes, and apply digitalization to management, production, and sales. “OCOP certification is not only a recognition of product quality but also a driving force for subjects to target larger markets, especially exports.

“Building and developing the OCOP brand is a long journey, requiring perseverance, creativity and relentless efforts from the subjects. Therefore, each OCOP Da Nang product needs to carry its own identity, its own local story; at the same time, constantly improve quality, design and packaging to meet the increasing demands of the market,” Ms. Hau emphasized.
