On the evening of April 28, a candle-lighting ceremony to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs was held simultaneously at seven locations across the country, with the theme “Forever the marching song echoes”. At the Da Nang City Martyrs Cemetery - one of the central locations, in coordination with the city’s Veterans Association, hundreds of candles flickered brightly in the dark night, like immortal flowers lighting up historical memories.

Tearful eyes, incense sticks, flowers and candles... along with the melody of "There is a song that will never be forgotten" resounding, like a whisper to those who have fallen for the Fatherland. The atmosphere of gratitude spread strongly, blending with the emotions of the whole country, heading towards Ho Chi Minh City - where the solemn parade will be held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country.

Throughout April, Da Nang’s historical sites such as Da Nang Museum, Hoang Sa Exhibition House, Military Zone 5 Museum, Dien Hai Citadel, Hong Phuoc B1 Area, “Da Nang – Development and Integration” Exhibition… continuously welcomed a large number of people and tourists to visit and learn. In particular, at Hoang Sa Exhibition House, the tour program with the theme “A strip of mountains and rivers, millions of hearts towards the sea” – in red flags with yellow stars or traditional ao dai – attracted a large number of participants, igniting pride in the sacred sea and islands in the hearts of every citizen.

Mr. Nguyen Van Minh (70 years old), a tourist from Hanoi, emotionally said: “The years of bombs and bullets have passed, but the memories remain forever. Every time I have the opportunity to return here, I feel like I am meeting my comrades again, like I am hearing the call of the Fatherland from the forefront.”

Not only the previous generation, but also the young generation of Da Nang today actively seek out history. Nguyen Nu Thuc Uyen (Faculty of Business Administration, student of Duy Tan University) shared after a visit to the Military Zone 5 Museum: “Seeing war artifacts with my own eyes, I feel more clearly the meaning of independence and freedom. We, the young generation, must be grateful and live up to that sacrifice.”

The Military Zone 5 Museum, which preserves thousands of artifacts associated with the cause of defending the Fatherland, has become an effective educational destination for generations, especially the young, about the tradition of patriotism. Images of children in school uniforms, students attentively listening to tour guides telling historical stories… are becoming beautiful moments, widely shared on social networks these days.

The April atmosphere in Da Nang is more vibrant with many programs bearing historical imprints. At 2 Tran Quy Cap, visitors are given a free copy of the special supplement of Nhan Dan Newspaper published to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification. At 42 Bach Dang building, for the first time, the 3D Mapping film "The Story of Da Nang" is shown, taking viewers through the historical journey and development of the city in a vivid and emotional way.

From the perspective of a native of Da Nang and an educator, Mr. Nguyen Duc Phuoc, Party Cell Secretary and Principal of Nguyen Trai High School, shared: “On every major holiday, I take my family to the city’s historical sites. This is not only an opportunity to visit, but more importantly, it is a way for us to cherish the past together, pay tribute to the generations who sacrificed and educate our children to be aware of preserving and building the country today.”

Along with that, many students also showed deep interest in gratitude activities. Le Duc Loc (grade 10/8, Nguyen Trai High School) expressed: "I think participating in gratitude activities, especially visiting historical sites, helps me understand that today's freedom is not something obvious. I feel that I need to try harder to study and practice more so as not to let down those who sacrificed for the country."

The atmosphere of gratitude is still present in every beat of daily life. In schools, cafes, and restaurants in Da Nang, everywhere you can see the national flag flying, and red banners and slogans are hung solemnly. Street corners are bright red, small shops quietly hang flags as a silent but proud greeting - adding warmth to the historic days.

April – the unforgettable days – is lighting up in the hearts of every Da Nang citizen the love for their homeland, national pride and deep gratitude for the sacrifices of their ancestors. From the quiet footsteps searching for memories, the candles of gratitude lighting up the martyrs’ cemetery, to the bright red flags flying on every street… the story of bravery and aspiration continues, resounding in every Vietnamese heart.

Those historic days are not only memories – but also the fire that lights up the belief, so that Da Nang today and tomorrow can continue the journey of building the country with all pride and responsibility.
