On April 29, in Ho Chi Minh City, General Secretary To Lam met with General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith on the occasion of his and the high-ranking delegation of the Lao Party and State attending the ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.
General Secretary To Lam welcomed and highly appreciated General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith for leading a high-ranking delegation to attend the 50th Anniversary of Southern Liberation Day - a great and very important event for the country and people of Vietnam, demonstrating the special, loyal and rare solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.
The fact that high-ranking leaders of countries, including the General Secretary and President of Laos, attended the Anniversary Ceremony and sent an armed forces delegation to participate in the parade is a great encouragement and support for Vietnam.
General Secretary To Lam, on behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, once again congratulated Laos on the New Year, wished Laos continued development and wished the Lao people prosperity and happiness.
General Secretary To Lam emphasized that 50 years ago, the Great Victory in Spring 1975 ended the 21-year journey of resistance against the US, saving the country, regaining independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity for Vietnam. Every Vietnamese citizen is extremely proud of the glorious victory, the indomitable spirit of our ancestors and the tradition of solidarity and friendship of the three Indochinese countries.
General Secretary To Lam affirmed that the contribution to this resounding historic victory was the wholehearted support and effective assistance of brotherly countries and international friends, especially the side-by-side, "sharing the sweet and the bitter," the pure loyalty and consistency of the Lao Party, State and people, especially Laos allowing Vietnam to open the Ho Chi Minh trail on Lao soil, creating conditions for Vietnamese troops to enter the South, changing the situation on the Southern battlefield, contributing to the general offensive and uprising in the Spring of 1975, culminating in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, completely liberating the South and reunifying the country.

General Secretary To Lam affirmed that in his revolutionary career, every victory of the Vietnamese people is inseparable from the valuable support and assistance of the brotherly country of Laos. The Party, State and people of Vietnam always cherish the sentiments and will never forget the valuable, righteous and wholehearted help and support of the Party, State and people of Laos in this long-term resistance war and now in the cause of protecting, building and developing the country.
General Secretary To Lam emphasized that Vietnam will do its utmost, together with Laos, to continue to foster, protect and preserve the Vietnam-Laos relationship so that it can develop more and more strongly and bear fruit, for the benefit of the people of each country, for peace, independence, democracy and progress in the region and the world.
The General Secretary affirmed that the two countries, which had stood side by side in the past in the struggle for national independence and liberation, would continue to support each other in socio-economic development today, and the inauguration ceremony of Vung Ang wharf in Ha Tinh province was a vivid demonstration of this determination.
On behalf of the Lao Party, State and people, General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith warmly congratulated Vietnam on the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day; affirming that under the wise and talented leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese people have achieved one victory after another, culminating in the historic victory in the Spring of 1975, a brilliant, glorious, and proud historical milestone, a great achievement in Vietnam's revolutionary cause.
This was the important foundation leading to the final victory and the establishment of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in December 1975, a victory of the times, a shining example for the people of the world for justice and fairness, and a great source of encouragement and motivation for the national liberation movement in the world.
Comrade Thongloun Sisoulith congratulated and emphasized that after 50 years since the country's reunification and nearly 40 years of implementing the Doi Moi process, Vietnam has achieved many great and comprehensive achievements, its foundation, potential, position and international prestige have been increasingly affirmed and enhanced.
General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith highly appreciated Vietnam's solemn organization of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South, and Laos was very happy and honored to send a delegation to participate in the parade in Ho Chi Minh City, contributing to the overall success of the ceremony on this occasion, demonstrating the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
General Secretary and President of Laos shared the excellent results of the recent State visit to Laos by President Luong Cuong, once again demonstrating the steadfast relationship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

Comrade Thongloun Sisoulith also shared about his visit and attendance at the inauguration ceremony of Vung Ang wharf, a symbol of economic cooperation between the two countries in the new era; expressed his appreciation and deep gratitude to Vietnam for always creating favorable conditions for Laos in socio-economic development and other fields.
The two leaders informed each other about the situation in each country, discussed and agreed on a number of directions and tasks for bilateral relations in the coming time, especially in the fields of economy, trade, investment, and transport infrastructure connection.
General Secretary To Lam and Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith also informed each other about the preparations for the party congresses in each country as well as discussed international and regional situations of mutual concern.
The two leaders affirmed that in any circumstances, the two Parties, two States and peoples of Vietnam and Laos will always give priority to each other, continue to cultivate, preserve, protect and develop the Vietnam - Laos relationship forever, as wished by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane and President Souphanouvong, to firmly step into a new era, an era of national independence and prosperous development of the two countries.
