The Central Sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long-Hanoi was recognized as a world cultural heritage in 2010, one of the golden marks of the Vietnamese people associated with the thousand-year history of the capital and the whole country, a place that preserves not only historical memories but also the crystallization of national culture, including traditional craft villages.
Also in 2010, on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long- Hanoi , the Hanoi Handicraft and Craft Village Association presented to the Thang Long Imperial Citadel 3 special artifacts, including: a large drum, a large gong and a large bell. However, due to the harsh effects of weather and natural disasters, the drum's face and belt were broken; the bell tower was seriously degraded.

With the desire to preserve, maintain and continue to promote the value of these artifacts, the Hanoi Handicraft and Craft Village Association and the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center agreed to carry out a major renovation of the drum and rebuild the bell tower with the same scale and form as the original. With the support of the Association's members, artisans and businesses, after a period of construction, the bell tower project was completed and handed over to the Thang Long - Hanoi Conservation Center.
The organizers said that after completion, the bell tower and the drum tower will become a highlight in the landscape space of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel - Hanoi heritage. This is a very meaningful gift from artisans and craft villages, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the value of traditional Vietnamese craft villages, the world cultural heritage of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Central Area - Hanoi in particular, and the thousand-year-old cultural quintessence of the Vietnamese people in general.
