Land of heroes

Tri Ton is a mountainous, ethnic, religious, border district, playing an important role in the cause of land opening and land preservation of the people of An Giang. During the war of national liberation, Tri Ton was a revolutionary base area, a bridgehead of the strategic corridor to the Southwest, so it was attacked extremely fiercely by the enemy. This place is also the cradle of the revolution that suffered many losses and sacrifices.

During the two wars against colonialism and imperialism, the Party Committee, armed forces and people of Tri Ton fought over 1,630 large and small battles, winning many important victories. Typical examples include the Vinh Thong iron bridge battle; the legendary Tuc Dup hill for 128 days and nights was awarded 8 golden words by the Central Office of Southern Vietnam: "Resolutely hold on, firmly hold To Mountain".

After 1975, Tri Ton was a district with more difficulties than any other locality in the province. The old war wounds had not yet healed, and they had to face a new war against the Pol Pot genocidal army to maintain the southwestern border. Ba Chuc cemetery is both a testament to the crimes of the genocidal army and a testament to the losses of Tri Ton.

On December 20, 1994, the Party Committee and people of Tri Ton district were honored to receive the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces in the cause of resistance against the US to save the country. This is a worthy recognition by the State for the great contributions of the heroic district. Currently, the whole district has 5 heroic communes and towns, including: Ba Chuc town, Luong Phi commune, O Lam commune, An Tuc, Co To; with 10 Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, 89 Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, 4,027 families with meritorious services to the revolution, 984 martyrs, more than 700 wounded and sick soldiers. In the district, there are 11 ranked historical and revolutionary and cultural relics.

Having gone through the pain of war, inheriting the heroic and indomitable tradition of the previous generations, the Party Committee and the government of Tri Ton district have united, made efforts, and determined to act, focusing on socio-economic development; taking care of healthcare and education; and stabilizing national defense and security. Chairman of the People's Committee of Tri Ton district Nguyen Van Be Tam said that in the socio-economic development plan, the locality focuses on four key sectors: Agriculture, industry - handicrafts, tourism, trade and services.

With the joint efforts and consensus of the entire political system and the people, in recent years, Tri Ton district has reaped "sweet" fruits in all fields; the socio-economic growth indexes of each year are higher than the previous year. In 2024, the total production value (GO) at 2010 comparative prices increased by 9.59%; the value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reached nearly 157 million VND/ha; total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue increased by 15%; average income per capita is estimated at 61.2 million VND; the poverty rate decreased by over 2%...

Total production value (GO) at comparable prices in the first quarter of 2025 reached nearly 1,276 billion VND, up 1.41% compared to the set target. Of which, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector reached nearly 160 billion VND; the industry and construction sector reached over 1,116 billion VND. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue (current prices) reached nearly 2,216 billion VND. The industrial production index (IIP) reached nearly 700 billion VND. Cultural - information, physical training - sports, education, health and social security activities continued to achieve many results; political security, social order and safety were ensured. In particular, the work of caring for policy beneficiaries and families with revolutionary contributions has always been of interest and implemented.

Every year, on the occasion of Tet and major holidays of the year, the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee at all levels of Tri Ton district organize visits and present gifts to Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, policy families, and people with meritorious services. During the visits, the district and local leaders expressed gratitude for the families' contributions to the struggle for national liberation and reunification; demonstrating the tradition of "remembering the source of water when drinking" of the Vietnamese people.
