Even though it was Saturday, the Cultural House of Area 1, An Binh Ward was still open for work, the Chief and Deputy Chief of the area were both present. Witnessing the two of them working and receiving people, one could understand why everyone said that this was a pair that worked well together, closely coordinating in the activities of the area for nearly 20 years.

Party Cell Secretary and Area Head Chiem Van Thuong said: “On the morning of April 29, the area organized a general environmental cleaning campaign to celebrate the April 30th holiday. Every month, the area organizes a cleaning campaign once, and on the occasion of the holiday, it is even more thoughtful, with flags hung and decorations made more beautiful. The area also mobilized people to contribute funds, prepare to upgrade and expand alleys 5 and 7 on Tran Vinh Kiet Street, alley 548 on 3/2 Street in the form of the State and the people working together. The meetings to collect opinions have been completed, everyone agrees, the next steps will be carried out in the coming time.”

Over the years, under the leadership of the Chief and Deputy Chief of the area, the traffic system of Area 1 has been increasingly improved and more spacious. More than 10 roads and alleys have been paved with asphalt and concrete in the form of socialization or the State and the people working together. In parallel, the roads have been equipped with lighting, security cameras, planted with trees, ornamental flowers, built models of bright - green - clean - beautiful roads and alleys... Security and order are increasingly stable, fire prevention and fighting are well implemented, the Cultural Family Club meets every month, the cultural and sports movements are aroused through sports festivals and performances organized by the ward and district. Economic and spiritual life is increasingly improved, currently the area has no poor households, only 1 near-poor household. Area 1 is also a focal area of ​​the ward in movements and activities, and has been a typical cultural area for many consecutive years.

Mr. Tran Tuan Thanh, Deputy Head of the area, shared: “Mr. Hai Thuong and I have been working in the area since 2007. At that time, Mr. Hai had just retired, and I had just joined social work in the locality. Over the past 18 years, we have actively contributed to the locality in building a cultural life at the grassroots level, eliminating hunger and reducing poverty, preventing epidemics, environmental sanitation, urban civilization, elections, security and order, reconciliation... We have tried our best for the common good and thanks to the support of the government and the people, everything has achieved good results.” The most memorable period was the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, when both men actively worked with the locality to promote disease prevention, mobilize philanthropists, and participate in distributing vegetables, rice, noodles, and necessities to households affected by the pandemic. When the pandemic passed and life returned to normal, the two men continued to work with their branches and organizations to rebuild movements and common activities, continuing to stabilize the area and develop it further.

In particular, the Mediation Team led by Mr. Chiem Van Thuong as Team Leader and Mr. Tran Tuan Thanh as Deputy Team Leader was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Department of Justice for its outstanding achievements in 10 years of implementing the Law on Grassroots Mediation. Mr. Thanh said: “Previously, on average, each year the area had about 12-13 disputes and conflicts over land, environmental sanitation, neighborhood, marriage and family, etc. The Team successfully mediated more than 80% of them, the rest were transferred to higher levels for handling. In recent years, thanks to the good implementation of the Party's policies and guidelines, the State's legal regulations and enhanced solidarity, there are only 4-5 disputes each year. The members of the team carefully study the cases and give reasonable and appropriate analysis and advice, so the success rate of mediation is high.”

With their positive contributions, Mr. Chiem Van Thuong and Mr. Tran Tuan Thanh have both received many awards from all levels and sectors in various movements and fields. Their families are also typical cultural families of the locality. Mr. Chiem Van Thuong has 6 children, Mr. Tran Tuan Thanh has 1 child. All have college and university degrees, and have stable lives and careers. Mr. Chiem Van Thuong is 77 years old this year, Mr. Tran Tuan Thanh is 61 years old but is still responsible and enthusiastic about his work in the locality. Because for both of them, as long as they are healthy, they can continue to contribute!
