Striving to rise up, veteran Bui Xuan Ang, from Khanh Cuong commune, Yen Khanh district, participated in many fierce battlefields during the resistance war against the US, including the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign. After the country was reunified, he returned to his hometown and started to develop the economy.
Mr. Ang shared: “After learning about some effective economic development models in neighboring localities, I discussed with my family and decided to dig a pond to raise fish, pigs and chickens on an area of 1,000 m2 of land. In 2014, when the commune implemented land consolidation in the new rural construction, I continued to rent more land 313 and expanded the integrated livestock model to 3,600 m2”.
Currently, Mr. Ang's family has 7 sows, 40 pigs; 20 bee colonies; 300 m2 of snail farming and 700 m2 of traditional fish pond. After deducting expenses, each year they earn 500-600 million VND. Thanks to economic development, his family has become a well-off household in the locality, able to build a spacious, solid house and purchase full equipment for daily life.
Mr. Ang's model has been visited by many members to learn from his experience in economic development. In addition, he actively participates in the Association's movements, willing to contribute and help households in difficult circumstances to stabilize their lives.
After 7 years of fighting in the Central Highlands and Southeast battlefields, veteran Truong Ngoc Than, Hung Tien commune, Kim Son district, returned to his hometown with a disability rate of 61%. Despite his war injuries, he always remembered Uncle Ho's teaching "Disabled but not useless" and persevered in life. With the desire to restore and develop the traditional profession of his hometown, in 1993, he started a business producing handicrafts from sedge.
Thanks to his diligence and gradually affirmed economic efficiency, he boldly expanded production, rented more premises and recruited workers. In 1999, he established Vina Ngoc Son Company Limited with initial revenue of 40 million VND/year. By 2024, the company's revenue reached nearly 90 billion VND, contributing 4.3 billion VND to the state budget.
Currently, the Company creates stable jobs for nearly 60 local workers with an income of 5-7 million VND/person/month. The Company's handicraft products have reached international markets such as the UK, the US, France, the Netherlands, Germany, etc.
Mr. Than shared: “To achieve today’s achievements, in addition to my own and my family’s efforts, I also received active support from the Veterans Association at all levels through training courses, technology transfer and preferential capital to invest in production development”. Replicating models of veterans with good economic performance In recent years, the movement “Veterans reduce poverty, do good economic performance” has become one of the typical movements, with strong influence in all levels of the Veterans Association in the province.
In order for the movement to achieve practical results, the War Veterans Association at all levels in the province has proactively followed the province's socio-economic development policies and orientations, thereby building specific action plans suitable to practical conditions.
The Association has promoted propaganda and mobilized members to change their production mindset, boldly transform crop and livestock structures; encouraged the application of science and technology, and innovated production and business methods to improve economic efficiency.
At the same time, coordinate with specialized agencies to organize many technical training courses on cultivation and animal husbandry, support plants and breeds, and create favorable conditions for members to access preferential loans to develop household economy.
In 2024 alone, the Association at all levels organized 19 training courses for over 1,400 members, contributing to improving knowledge, management skills and operating production models. The Association also received a trust from the Social Policy Bank with a total outstanding loan of over 760 billion VND, supporting more than 15,000 member households to borrow capital.
In addition, the movement to build the “Comradely Love” Fund has been widely implemented, helping members in difficulty to borrow without interest or at preferential interest rates, creating favorable conditions for investment in production development. Thanks to the synchronous and practical support, up to now, the whole province has 130 enterprises, 49 cooperatives, 48 cooperative groups, 298 farms, 2,660 family farms and more than 2,700 production and business households owned by War Veterans Association members.
These models not only contribute to the development of household economy but also create stable jobs for more than 32,000 local workers. This is a remarkable result, clearly demonstrating the pioneering and exemplary role of war veterans on the peacetime economic development front.
Comrade Le Dinh Cuoc, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Association of War Veterans, shared: “Promoting the revolutionary tradition, continuing the glorious tradition of “Uncle Ho’s Army”, generations of war veterans in the province are always the vanguard force, leading in patriotic emulation movements, contributing their efforts with the Party Committee, Government and People to successfully carry out the task of building and defending the Fatherland in the new period.
In particular, on the economic front, the provincial War Veterans Association members not only actively learn and research to build effective economic models but also proactively apply science and technology to production, increasing the value of products. More preciously, many members not only enrich themselves but are also always willing to support with capital, working days, techniques, plants and breeds to develop together, helping poor households improve their lives.
In the coming time, the War Veterans Association at all levels in the province will continue to promote the spirit of solidarity, innovate the content and methods of operation, and focus on promoting the movement "Veterans help each other reduce poverty and do good business".
Along with that, the Association also actively participates in social security activities, mobilizes support for the "Comradely Love" Fund, combines economic development with good performance of gratitude work, and cares for members' lives. Thereby, continuing to affirm the role and position of the Association in the socio-economic development of the province, making worthy contributions to the cause of building an increasingly civilized and prosperous homeland.
