During the years of the resistance war against America to save the country, Dong Dang Station was a key location on the strategic route, becoming a "Floating Port" in receiving aid from socialist countries to support Vietnam in fighting America.

Remember a heroic time

Going back in time, Mr. Nguyen Lam, former Deputy Head of Dong Dang International Railway Station, in the early 1990s, holding in his hand and turning each page of the 100-year history book of Dong Dang International Railway Station (1908-2008), said that on August 1, 1955, the Hanoi-Beijing-Moscow-Berlin international railway was officially inaugurated.

From here began a period of continuous and vibrant activity of Dong Dang station until the victorious end of our nation's great resistance war against the US on April 30, 1975.

During those years, Dong Dang station had the honor of being the key station of the strategic route receiving aid from friendly countries for Vietnam to fight the US.

Especially in 1972, when the US imperialists blockaded along the coast and Hai Phong, the Central Government decided to "strategically turn" the transport to the north, the operation of Dong Dang station on the strategic railway line Hanoi (Vietnam) - Huu Nghi Quan (China) became even more important.

Through more than 300 days and nights of the fierce year 1972, the cadres and workers of Dong Dang station overcame all dangers, all hardships and shortages, working without eating or sleeping, contributing with the transport force to transport millions of tons of goods, weapons, and ammunition, ensuring the fight against the destructive war of the American imperialists in the North and supporting the great frontline in the South to defeat the enemy, leading to the great victory of Spring 1975, liberating the South, and reunifying the Fatherland.

Dong Dang resounds with the sound of train whistles

Along with the development of the country and the railway industry, Dong Dang station has changed from a level II station to a level I station (the highest level in the current station system of Vietnam's railway).

Mr. Ta Duy Hien, Deputy Head of Dong Dang International Transit Station, shared that currently, Dong Dang Station is performing quite comprehensive tasks and participating more and more deeply in the global and regional economy, becoming a major transit point for goods from the whole country and ASEAN countries to the Chinese market and vice versa.

Currently, Dong Dang station operates freight transport business; participates in passenger transport, domestic and international multimodal transport; preserves, loads, delivers and receives goods and organizes service and commercial business activities...

At present, every day, Dong Dang station receives and delivers 5 pairs of cargo trains (equivalent to 10 cargo trains), each carrying thousands of tons of export goods from Dong Dang station (Vietnam) to Bang Tuong station (China) and vice versa.

Vietnam's exports are mainly agricultural products, durian, electronics, garments... imports are iron and steel materials, chemicals...

Along with its transportation business activities, in recent years, Dong Dang station has also been one of the destinations attracting domestic and foreign tourists to visit.

Notably, on February 25, 2019, Dong Dang Station was honored to be the first destination in the trip of Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Kim Jong Un to Vietnam to attend the 2nd US-North Korea Summit and pay an official friendship visit to Vietnam.

The reception of President Kim Jong Un at Dong Dang station left a good impression. Thereby, creating an image of the land and people of Lang Son as well as the country of Vietnam, showing respect, friendliness and hospitality to domestic and international friends.

Dong Dang International Railway Station has now become a tourist destination in Cao Loc district (Lang Son), attracting many visitors.

To improve transport capacity from 2023, the Ministry of Transport has implemented the project to renovate and upgrade chemical warehouse items in the Dong Dang station area.

The project has completely redeveloped the yard, renovated many items, invested in 2 new roads for loading and unloading goods and built a warehouse of about ^1,000m2 , renovated the entire old warehouse system, built an operating house...

The station infrastructure has been completed, contributing to the increase in import and export capacity. Currently, the transport capacity of Dong Dang station meets about 1.5 million tons/year...

Along with that, Lang Son province also requested the Vietnam Railways to soon upgrade and renovate the Hanoi-Dong Dang railway line into a high-speed railway line; pay attention to investing, renovating and upgrading the infrastructure of Dong Dang station; soon synchronize the system of refrigerated container trains to serve the transportation of agricultural products, fresh fruits, etc. for export and import across the border.
