21:30 on April 29, Phu Ly station - a small stop but containing a great love, on the North-South journey of the Thong Nhat Train. Under the warm yellow light, the rows of seats in the station were full of people, everyone turned their eyes to the rails, where the SE1 train named "The Thong Nhat Train" was about to enter the station. Everyone shared the same feelings of excitement, pride and emotion.
Teacher Nguyen Quoc Dat, a teacher at Bien Hoa High School for the Gifted, and his students were present at the train station very early, with the red flag with yellow star, eagerly waiting for the Reunification train. Teacher Nguyen Quoc Dat shared: “I was assigned to teach the content of career orientation experience activities for students. Therefore, in the days when the country is looking forward to the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, bringing my students to welcome the Reunification train is a very meaningful activity. This is a great opportunity for students to be educated more about patriotism, respect for peace and national unity.”
Mr. Phan Duc Hieu (Chau Cau ward, Phu Ly), a passenger getting off the train at Phu Ly station, could not hide his emotions when stepping off the special Thong Nhat train: “I have been on the train many times, but this time the feeling is completely different. When I knew I would be sitting on the train named Thong Nhat, right on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the country's complete liberation, I felt moved. On the train, we passengers sang the song "As if Uncle Ho were here on the great victory day". I understand that every stretch of road I have traveled today is thanks to the sacrifices of many generations of our ancestors. The country has been unified, now is the time for us to preserve and develop together.”
On the platform, the atmosphere seemed to quiet down. Each passenger had their own story, but everyone shared the same pride and felt deeply the meaning of the trip. It was not just a journey from North to South, but also a journey through history and national spirit.
As for the staff and workers of Phu Ly station, this is not only a symbolic train trip, but also a special political and social event, requiring serious and absolutely precise preparation. Mr. Trinh Duc Tang, Head of Phu Ly station said: “Before this event, Phu Ly station has strengthened technical inspections, closely coordinated with functional forces to ensure train safety and security and order. Propaganda work was promoted through the internal radio system, coordination with local organizations, mass media to disseminate the significance of the event and remind people to ensure railway safety corridors”.
With the solemn music playing from the internal loudspeaker at the station, people exchanged wordless hugs, their eyes exchanged affection - all creating a brilliant picture of national love and compatriotism.
The journey of the two trains is not only meaningful in terms of transportation, but also an emotional symbol of the flesh-and-blood connection between the North and the South. At exactly 12 noon on April 30, 2025, the two trains will meet at Da Nang station. That moment of reunion has great significance: paying tribute to the past, honoring the present and opening up the future. The two trains from the North and South will slowly enter the station like two arms reaching out to each other in the vast blue sky.
“The Reunification Train” is not only a means of transportation, but also a symbol of patriotism, a connection between the past and the present. This year’s train is not simply a journey across Vietnam, but a journey back to the roots, towards the future. In each beat of the train wheels are the beats of love and connection of more than 100 million Vietnamese people.
