According to information from the Department of Foreign Market Development (Ministry of Industry and Trade), on the evening of April 23, Minister of Industry and Trade, Head of the Government Negotiation Delegation Nguyen Hong Dien had a phone call with US Trade Representative Jamieson L. Greer.
This is an important meeting to discuss the principles, scope and roadmap for negotiating bilateral economic and trade issues.
During the phone call, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to developing a comprehensive strategic partnership with the US and wishes to promote economic and trade relations in a balanced, stable, sustainable and effective manner with the US.
Along with that, Vietnamese ministries and sectors are ready to negotiate and handle issues of concern to the US, and together find reasonable solutions for mutual benefit, in the spirit of harmonious interests and shared risks.

US Trade Representative Jamieson L. Greer appreciated the two countries' agreement to negotiate a bilateral trade agreement; expressed confidence that the two sides will soon reach appropriate solutions, promoting stable and mutually beneficial economic and trade relations.
At the end of the meeting, the two heads of negotiating delegations also agreed to maintain regular exchanges at the head of negotiating delegation and technical level to speed up the negotiation process on each specific issue.
Previously, on April 22, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting of the Government Standing Committee with relevant ministries, branches and agencies on preparing for negotiations and promoting balanced, stable and sustainable trade relations with the US.
The Prime Minister requested ministries and branches, especially the negotiating delegation, to prepare well the content for negotiations with the US side.
In particular, negotiations must not complicate the issue, not affect international agreements that Vietnam has participated in, not affect other markets because of one market, and have reasonable solutions for mutual benefit.
According to the Prime Minister, this is also an opportunity for Vietnam to restructure export dynamics, restructure enterprises, diversify markets, diversify products, and diversify supply chains.
Therefore, it is necessary to focus on improving product quality, reducing costs, moving towards high-tech products, green development, circular economy, knowledge economy, sharing economy based on science, technology, and digital transformation according to world trends.
