"I am honored to have contributed a small part to the journey of bringing glory to the Fatherland. This is not only an individual achievement but also comes from the guidance of the teachers in the team, the school, and the support and encouragement from my family," Tien Hung recalled the moment his name was called to the international podium to receive the gold medal.
At this year's International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), all four contestants from the Vietnamese team won medals, including three gold medals and one silver medal. Nguyen Huu Tien Hung won the gold medal with the highest score in the delegation, 77.35/100 points, ranking 17th out of more than 300 participants.
The achievement of the male student from Bac Ninh contributed to helping the Vietnamese team tie for second place with the US, ranking only behind China in the number of medals, among 89 participating countries and territories.

Born and raised in the scholarly and academically-oriented Kinh Bac region, Nguyen Huu Tien Hung cultivated a strong sense of academic excellence from a young age, participating in numerous provincial-level gifted student competitions. Upon first encountering Chemistry in the 8th grade, he became captivated and determined to pursue it.
“I am passionate about Chemistry because it offers fascinating experiences, from chemical reactions that create vibrant colors, astonishing people. When studying this subject, I can easily explain things and phenomena, research the composition, structure, properties, and changes of matter,” Tien Hung said, adding that it is a subject very close to everyday life.
In his free time, Tien Hung also enjoys watching YouTube videos about common illnesses, which provide simple explanations of the causes and progression of diseases. Each time he watches a video, he learns how to prevent and treat common illnesses like colds and diarrhea, and then shares the information with his family.

Seeing her younger brother's early passion for Chemistry, Tien Hung's older sister, a former Chemistry student at Bac Ninh High School for Gifted Students, wholeheartedly supported him in pursuing this fascinating subject. Thanks to her encouragement, the young man began joining the Chemistry team in the 9th grade.
Also during that school year, 10X won first prize in the Bac Ninh province's Chemistry competition for gifted students and was directly admitted to the 10th grade Chemistry specialized class at Bac Ninh High School for Gifted Students. There, Tien Hung had many more opportunities to explore and learn about the fascinating aspects of Chemistry under the guidance of his teachers.
According to Tien Hung, to excel in this subject, one needs to understand the root of the problem and grasp the fundamental knowledge, thereby solving difficult problems. Therefore, the male student always maintains a serious and self-disciplined attitude towards studying by creating a reasonable schedule that balances relaxation and studying.
A male student from Bac Ninh assessed that this year's IChO exam had many new and topical aspects, requiring candidates to have the ability to synthesize information and perform precise operational skills.
"When I received the exam paper, I was a little confused because it was more difficult than I imagined. However, I quickly regained my composure, remembered the advice from my teachers, and applied all the knowledge I had learned at school and in the exam preparation team to find the solutions one by one," the 10th grader recalled.

Through diligent study and relentless effort during his high school years, Tien Hung boasts an impressive record of achievements, including: second prize in the national excellent student competition in Chemistry and a gold medal in the first Abu Reikhan Beruniy International Chemistry Olympiad, held in Uzbekistan (in 11th grade); and first prize in the 2024 national excellent student competition in Chemistry.
With those exceptionally outstanding achievements, in June of this year, the Party branch of Bac Ninh Specialized High School held a ceremony to admit outstanding student Nguyen Huu Tien Hung as a Party member. Honored to be in the ranks of the Party, Tien Hung feels himself to have matured and become more responsible in his thoughts and actions.
Sharing his future plans, the male student said he will study at Hanoi Medical University to fulfill his dream of becoming a skilled doctor, treating illnesses and helping people. This is also the wish and desire of his family.

Accompanying and closely following Tien Hung in national and international competitions, Ms. Vu Thi Len, homeroom teacher of the specialized Chemistry class at Bac Ninh High School for Gifted Students, commented that this student is always diligent, hardworking, and has a progressive spirit in his studies.
"On the first day of class, I was impressed with Tien Hung's intelligence, quick wit, and ability to grasp lessons well. Through the learning and training process, he has further revealed and developed his talents, and increasingly affirmed himself through his excellent academic achievements," Ms. Len said, believing that with his intelligence and quick wit, the student will become a skilled doctor in the future, contributing to society.
