On March 16, 2025, in Vinh Phuc , Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his delegation visited the Tam Dao Beef Farm and Processing Factory Complex. This is a prominent project of Vinh Phuc province, invested and implemented by Vilico (a member of Vinamilk) and the multi-industry corporation Sojitz (Japan).
This is the first result of realizing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) worth 500 million USD signed between Vinh Phuc province - Sojitz - Vilico - Vinamilk, witnessed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the Vietnam - Japan Investment Promotion Conference 2021 (in Japan).
With the strengths of Vinamilk, Vilico and Sojitz, this project not only marks the cooperation between leading corporations of Vietnam and Japan, but also elevates Vietnam's high-tech livestock and processing industry, increasing the ability to participate more deeply in the global production and supply chain. From there, it will better meet the needs of the domestic market, even aiming to export high-quality "made in Vietnam" beef to many countries around the world.
The Tam Dao beef farm and processing factory complex has a total investment of VND1,670 billion, invested by Vietnam Livestock Corporation (Vilico) and operated by Vietnam Japan Livestock Company Limited (JVL). This is a joint venture between Vilico (a subsidiary of Vinamilk) and the Japanese multi-industry corporation Sojitz.
The complex in Vinh Phuc was officially started in 2023 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam - Japan diplomatic relations and completed the entire construction investment in 2024, in which the beef processing factory will officially come into operation from the fourth quarter of 2024.
The Prime Minister assessed that this project has many meanings, especially contributing to improving people's material and spiritual life, comprehensive human development, health care, and improving the physical strength and stature of Vietnamese people - Photo: VGP/Nhat Bac
The project is deployed on a total area of 75.6 hectares in Tam Dao, Vinh Phuc, with a total investment of 1,670 billion VND. This complex consists of 2 main subdivisions:
Beef processing plant with a capacity of up to 30,000 heads/year, equivalent to an output of 10,000 tons of meat/year. The factory is invested with the most modern and advanced technology from Europe and Japanese meat processing techniques, ensuring product quality according to high world standards. In addition, it also meets the standards of green production, emission reduction, and sustainable development.
The beef farm has the capacity to raise up to 10,000 cows, expected to be operational from May 2025. With experience from Vinamilk, the beef farm will be built and operated according to high standards such as Global GAP SLP, thereby completing the closed "3 in 1" process from breeding, production and distribution.
With the strengths of Vinamilk, Vilico and Sojitz, this project not only marks the cooperation between leading corporations of the two countries Vietnam - Japan, but also elevates Vietnam's high-tech livestock and processing industry, increasing the ability to participate more deeply in the global production and supply chain. From there, it will better meet the needs of the domestic market, even aiming to export high-quality "made in Vietnam" beef to many countries around the world.
The smart conveyor and packaging system at the factory minimizes human contact, maintaining the temperature and freshness of the meat. Beef is processed and stored at 0-4 degrees Celsius throughout the production and distribution process, helping to maintain nutritional quality and flavor, meeting strict standards from major markets such as Japan and the EU.
JVL's fresh, cooled beef products have begun to increase their recognition in the market, becoming a quality source of supply for restaurants and present in major supermarket chains across the country, such as Winmart, Fujimart, Aeon... In the near future, JVL's fresh, cooled beef products will carry the NIKU-ICHI brand, with many unique, high-quality product lines, meeting the tastes and ensuring safety for Vietnamese consumers.
The size of the beef market in Vietnam is estimated at about 500,000 tons in 2024 and has great potential for growth as beef consumption is still low compared to other Asian countries. In addition, the domestic supply of quality beef currently meets about 45-50%, the rest must be imported, not commensurate with Vietnam's potential.
Therefore, large, well-invested projects coming into operation in the coming time promise to create great strides and growth momentum for the entire industry.
