Going back in time, Chu Dau ceramics has a long history of development since the 15th century in Chu Dau - a small commune in Thanh Lam district, Nam Sach district, Hai Duong town. Chu Dau commune is adjacent to the left bank of Thai Binh river, where Chu Dau ceramics was born and developed brilliantly for many centuries. The clay is carefully selected, then through the talented hands of the potter, the clay is kneaded, shaped and then fired at high temperatures. The fire in the kiln, after many hours of burning, not only makes the clay hard but also gives the pottery product a rustic, warm beauty close to many memories. This process not only requires meticulousness but also requires technique and experience to ensure the perfection of the product, thereby creating the difference of Chu Dau pottery compared to other pottery lines. Not only is it a handmade product, Chu Dau pottery also contains deep cultural and spiritual values. The motifs on the pottery often mean luck, happiness, and peace. Lotus flowers, cranes, dragons and phoenixes are popular images, symbolizing nobility, longevity and prosperity. It is the combination of art and spirituality that makes Chu Dau pottery not only valuable in terms of aesthetics but also a precious item that adds to the spiritual life of Vietnamese people.
