This morning, General Secretary and President To Lam received Prime Minister of Timor Leste Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão.
The General Secretary and President welcomed Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão's visit to Vietnam; assessing the visit as having significant importance, creating new momentum, and contributing to opening a more substantive and effective phase of development in the good friendship between Vietnam and Timor Leste.
The General Secretary and President congratulated Timor Leste on its achievements, especially its official membership in ASEAN. Vietnam will continue to support Timor Leste's integration and ensure its full and effective participation in ASEAN's cooperation mechanisms and programs.

Expressing admiration for Vietnam's rapid and sustainable development, Timor Leste Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão said that this process strongly inspires other countries, including Timor Leste.
He also congratulated and highly appreciated Vietnam for successfully organizing the 3rd ASEAN Future Forum (AFF), creating a forum for policymakers, academics, businesses, and especially young people to participate in the process of building a vision for ASEAN.
The General Secretary and President affirmed that Vietnam always values and wishes to strengthen friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation with Timor Leste; and supports Timor Leste's independence, peace, prosperous development, and integration into the region and the international community.
The General Secretary and President highly appreciated the results of the talks between Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão and Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, noting that the achievements of the visit will create an important framework and foundation for deepening and strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The General Secretary and President proposed that the two countries strengthen political relations, promote relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Timor-Leste National Congress for Reconstruction, and share experiences on Party building, governance, and national development.
Both sides need to strengthen defense and security cooperation, responding to traditional and non-traditional security challenges; and expand economic, trade, and investment cooperation in promising areas such as oil and gas, mining, agriculture, telecommunications, digital transformation, and human resource training.
Vietnam and Timor Leste need to strengthen cooperation in education and training, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges based on the recently signed cooperation documents, including the visa exemption agreement for holders of ordinary passports.

The Prime Minister of Timor-Leste expressed his desire for the two sides to soon hold the first meeting of the Bilateral Cooperation Committee to exchange specific plans and areas of cooperation; including considering areas where Vietnam can support Timor-Leste in strengthening economic self-reliance, developing private enterprises, improving institutions, and developing infrastructure.
The two leaders agreed to coordinate closely within ASEAN, the United Nations, and other regional and international forums; jointly contribute to internal solidarity, enhance ASEAN's central role, and maintain a peaceful, stable, cooperative, and prosperous environment in Southeast Asia.
This afternoon, the Prime Minister of Timor Leste departed Hanoi, concluding his official visit to Vietnam and participation in the AFF.
On June 9th, speaking at the opening session of the AFF, Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão affirmed that this was a particularly significant day as it marked the first time Timor Leste participated in the forum as a full member of the ASEAN family. He thanked the Government of Vietnam and the Diplomatic Academy for initiating the ASEAN Future Forum to share visions of a peaceful, stable, and people-centered ASEAN future.
