Viettel Sports chooses My Dinh as home stadium, spends huge amount of money

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên19/11/2024

In the 2023-2024 season, The Cong Viettel Club will share Hang Day Stadium with two other teams, Hanoi Club and Hanoi Police Club. However, as Thanh Nien reported many times, at the end of October 2023, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) received a written request from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), stating that a stadium is only allowed to be used by a maximum of two teams. If violated, member federations will be stripped of their Asian tournament spots. After this announcement from the AFC, a team was forced to leave Hang Day Stadium.

Initially, all three teams wanted to continue playing at Hang Day Stadium. However, on July 19, Hanoi City officially issued a document announcing that The Cong Viettel Club would have to leave Hang Day Stadium and would not be allowed to register to play at this stadium as their home stadium in the 2024-2025 season.

Leaving Hang Day, The Cong Viettel Club is forced to find a new home ground. In Hanoi, The Cong Viettel Club considered My Dinh, Ha Dong and Thanh Tri stadiums. After a period of consideration, the military team chose My Dinh as their home ground for the 2024-2025 season.

Viettel The Cong Club must leave Hang Day due to AFC regulations

The above decision of Viettel The Cong Club is considered reasonable. In Hanoi, this is the only football field that meets all the requirements of AFC.

With the remaining two stadiums, Viettel The Cong Club will have difficulty using them because they are quite degraded. Ha Dong Stadium is considered the most suitable for Viettel The Cong Club but does not meet the requirements for V-League competition. This stadium only has a capacity of about 3,000 seats and does not have a lighting system.

Viettel The Cong Club will compete at My Dinh in the 2024 - 2025 season

Moving to My Dinh to compete, Viettel The Cong Club will incur a lot of expenses. Accordingly, the My Dinh National Sports Complex is a revenue-generating public service unit, assigned by the sports industry as a business, financially independent. To have money to operate, pay salaries to staff, maintain the works in the complex (including the Aquatic Sports Palace and My Dinh Stadium), as well as pay tax debts, the complex offers stadium rental prices, not less than 700 - 800 million VND/international match. As for domestic football matches, the lowest is around 150 - 200 million VND.

During the entire 2024 - 2025 season, The Cong Viettel Club can play 17 home matches: 13 V-League matches and a maximum of 4 National Cup matches. Thus, the estimated minimum amount of field rental that The Cong Viettel Club will have to pay is extremely large.
