On the afternoon of August 5th, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province, Le Van Dung, met with and commended Do Phu Quoc (12th grade, Le Thanh Tong Specialized High School, Hoi An), awarding him a certificate of merit and a cash prize of 200 million VND for his outstanding achievement in winning a silver medal at the 2024 International Chemistry Olympiad.

The two teachers who mentored Do Phu Quoc, Ms. Nguyen Thi Trang and Mr. Doan Van Mien (Le Thanh Tong Specialized High School), also received certificates of commendation and a cash reward of 30 million VND each from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
“This is a prestigious award, the first of its kind won by a student from Quang Nam, demonstrating the achievements of the education sector, upholding traditions, and proving worthy of being a land of learning. I wish Do Phu Quoc continued effort in his studies, to become a national talent, and to bring glory to his homeland of Quang Nam,” said Mr. Le Van Dung.
The 2024 International Chemistry Olympiad (held in Saudi Arabia at the end of July) reportedly attracted over 300 outstanding students from 89 countries and territories worldwide . The Vietnamese team had four students participating and won three gold medals and one silver medal, won by Do Phu Quoc.
In 2023, Do Phu Quoc won a gold medal at the Abu Reikhan Beruniy International Chemistry Olympiad (the Vietnamese team won 4 gold medals and 4 silver medals). The competition attracted 15 participating countries and was organized by Uzbekistan.
