TPO - A resident of Ha Tinh province discovered a rare golden mountain turtle while working in his field and handed it over to the authorities for release back into its natural environment.

On August 11th, the Ky Anh District Forest Protection Department (Ha Tinh province), in coordination with local authorities and residents, handed over a rare golden mountain tortoise to Vu Quang National Park.

The turtle, weighing 0.4kg and with a yellow shell interspersed with black hexagonal patterns, was discovered by Mr. Nguyen Van Duong (born in 1982, residing in Ky Tan commune) on August 9th while working in his field.
Knowing that this was a golden mountain tortoise, a rare and endangered species, Mr. Duong contacted the relevant authorities and handed it over for release back into the wild. After receiving it, Vu Quang National Park will monitor, care for, and release it back into its natural environment.
The golden mountain tortoise, scientifically known as Indotestudo elongata, belongs to group IIB of the list of endangered, precious, and rare forest plants and animals according to Decree 6/2019/ND-CP, amended by Decree 84/2021/ND-CP of the Government.
