On the afternoon of August 15, speaking with VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung, Vice Chairman of Ben Got Ward People's Committee (Viet Tri City) said that on the afternoon of August 14, Viet Tri port workers discovered a bomb with a diameter of 40cm and a length of 1.5m.

The bomb was found near the bank of the Lo River, about 150m downstream from Viet Tri Bridge.

Mr. Trung added that this is the type of bomb the US Air Force used to attack the Viet Tri port and wharf area from 1970 to 1972.

Immediately after discovering the bomb, Ben Got ward authorities blocked off and protected the scene and reported to the Phu Tho Provincial Military Command to develop a plan to safely handle the bomb.
