As the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country approaches, the theme of patriotism and independence covers social networks in many aspects of life, from travel trends, fashion to cuisine. Both professional and amateur bakers are caught up in the atmosphere of the big holiday when sharing products with the image of the red flag with yellow star, the map of Vietnam, the slogan "Independence - Freedom - Happiness" or the image of a tank crashing through the gate of the Independence Palace, which has become a symbol of the Great Victory of Spring 1975.
Flag shaped cake
To express her pride in her country, Ms. Do Thu Ngoc (35 years old, teacher in Hanoi) brings new beauty to the traditional banh xu xe by creating a bright red background of the national flag for them, adding a bright yellow star.
Ms. Ngoc said: "On social networks, everywhere is filled with images expressing patriotism. That motivated me to do something to express this spirit." The basic recipe and preparation method are still traditional, using familiar ingredients such as tapioca starch, sugar, and mung beans, only the decoration is different.
The red color of the national flag is created with gac fruit powder. As for the yellow color of the five-pointed star, she initially intended to create it with mung beans, but because she was afraid the color would not be bright, she decided to cut out a yellow star shape and stick it on the outside of the nylon shell. The biggest challenge when making this cake is to cook the bean filling so that it is delicious and the cake shell is clear and has a bright color.
Immediately after being posted, the images of Ms. Ngoc’s patriotic-themed xu xe cakes immediately attracted the attention of netizens. Many people commented that the cakes not only have a prominent and eye-catching appearance but also have a profound meaning, expressing and spreading national pride, making everyone admire, want to enjoy and share with others.
The creator of the red flag and yellow star cakes said that many people wanted to order them but she did not have time to make them because she was very busy with teaching. She could only make a few to give to relatives and family, and at the same time spread the spirit of anticipation for the great celebration of April 30 to everyone.
Looking at her achievements, Ms. Ngoc confided: "After finishing making the red and yellow star xu xe cakes, I kept looking at them and felt very happy. The cakes I made myself not only expressed my love for the country, but also carried with them my gratitude to the generations of my ancestors, and my pride in being born as a child of the beautiful S-shaped land. If there is a next life, I still wish to be Vietnamese."
Cake depicting a tank crashing into the gate of the Independence Palace
Nguyen Thi Thuy Duong (28 years old, living in Thanh Xuan, Hanoi) made a strong impression on the online community with her unique cake, recreating the important historical moment on April 30, 1975 when tank 390 crashed through the gate of the Independence Palace.
Known as the "witch in the cake village", Thuy Duong created a special cake to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South. "These days, everyone is looking forward to the anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, and I am no exception. I watch historical documents every day and want to recreate the image of tank 390 crashing into the gate of the Independence Palace, one of the symbols of the victory day", Thuy Duong confided.
The "baking witch" only took about an hour to make this cake. It was decorated with many small details such as the flag of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam and the gate of the Independence Palace made from sugar candy.... The tank model was quite complicated, so Thuy Duong delicately omitted some details to suit the cake material while still expressing the spirit and historical significance.
For her, this cake is a way to show gratitude to the generation of fathers and brothers who contributed blood and youth to victory, bringing peace and happiness to the people of a unified Vietnam, completely free of invaders.
Like Thuy Duong and Thu Ngoc, many other baking enthusiasts turn their products into works of art symbolizing Vietnam, the spirit of the April 30th holiday, and share them on social networks to spread that spirit and increase connections between people who share the same pride in their country.
In addition, social networks also share many cakes with patriotic spirit, below are some products with high interaction:
