As part of the Vietnam University Games (VUG), the VUG Running race in Tho Chau island commune was organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam University Games, with the participation of all 200 members of the expedition team and some officials, soldiers, and residents on the island.

This sporting event was organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Union to express the desire to join hands with officers, soldiers, and people of Tho Chau island commune to safeguard the sovereignty of the Fatherland's seas and islands, and to bring these frontline islands closer to the mainland.

Participating in the special VUG Running event on Tho Chau Island, many delegates considered it a "one-of-a-kind" sporting experience, as it not only contributed to improving the health of officers, soldiers, and delegates, but also had significant meaning in affirming and protecting Vietnam's territorial integrity.

Present in the Journey in general and the race in particular, singer Nguyen Hoang Huong Linh (stage name PiaLinh), known for her song "Cooking for You," said she was extremely proud to be a part of this meaningful physical training activity with the people and soldiers of Tho Chau.

According to Lam Tung, Director of the Vietnam Student Support and Development Center and Deputy Head of the "Students with the Sea and Islands of the Fatherland" 2024 journey, the running activity on Tho Chau Island by the journey's delegates officially launched the VUG Running Race 2024.
