TPO - In recent years, Computer Science has been the top-ranked major with the highest entrance exam scores.
In 2023, the Computer Science program at Hanoi University of Science and Technology admitted students through four methods: talent-based admission, assessment of thinking skills test results, high school graduation exam results, and direct admission.
Using the high school graduation exam scores as the admission cutoff, the Computer Science major set the cutoff score at 29.42 points, considering two subject combinations: A00 and A01. In contrast, in 2022, the major had a lower cutoff score of 28.29 points, considering the same subject combination.
In 2023, using the high school graduation exam scores as the admission method, the National Economics University set the cutoff score for admission at 35.35 points (Mathematics multiplied by a factor of two), considering 4 subject combinations: A00; A01; D01; D07.
In 2023, the Computer Science program at the University of Technology - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, admitted students based on three subject combinations: A00, A01, and D01, with a minimum admission score of 27.25 points.

Many schools have announced their admission cutoff scores early.
Many universities have announced the early admission cutoff scores for Computer Science in 2024.
At the National Economics University , the cutoff score for the Computer Science major is 27.75 for admission group 1 and 22.25 for admission group 2.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology had previously announced the cutoff scores for the talent-based admission method, which accounts for approximately 20% of the 2024 enrollment quota.
The remaining positions in the top 5 highest-scoring majors include:
Computer Science (IT1) is among the top 5 majors with the second highest admission scores, only behind Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (IT-E10).
Accordingly, the cutoff score for this major is 103.89 points (out of 110, an increase of 13.72 points compared to last year).
The University of Technology - VNU-HCM has announced the early admission cutoff scores for 2024. In Method 2 (Priority admission as regulated by VNU-HCM), the major with the highest cutoff score is Computer Science, standard program, with a total score of 86.7.
The admission score is the sum of the average scores of the subjects (in the subject combination for admission) from grades 10, 11, and 12 (on a 90-point scale), based on the essay and letter of recommendation.
During the 2024 admissions season, several universities, such as the University of Transport and Communications and the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), also announced the opening of new majors in Information Technology and Computer Science.
What are the cutoff scores?
According to teachers and admissions experts, this year, popular majors have high entrance scores, and if the enrollment quotas remain the same as last year, the competition will be even greater.
According to the analysis of the score distribution for traditional exam blocks such as A, B, A1, C, and D, all have shifted to the right of the graph, with both the average and median scores increasing compared to 2023.
At the same time, universities are now proactively implementing various admission methods, which has reduced the number of places available based solely on high school graduation exam scores. Therefore, the cut-off scores for various subject groups are unlikely to decrease, and top universities will likely maintain or slightly increase them compared to 2023.
According to teachers, the increase in scores for blocks A, B, and A1 will be smaller, ranging from 0.25 to 1 point, while blocks C and D may see an increase of 0.5 to 2 points depending on the school. Some schools may even experience significant changes due to the large variables that arise when candidates change their preferences.
Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc, Chairman of the University Council of the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, commented that the distribution of scores in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, and especially Chemistry and Geography, shows a higher number of perfect scores (10 points) compared to previous years. Therefore, it is predicted that the score distribution for the A00, A01, B00, C00, and D01 subject combinations will increase.
Unless there are significant changes in the proportion of admissions based on high school graduation exam results, this year's entrance scores will be higher than last year across all subject combinations, possibly differing by 1-3 points.
