Yemen's Houthi forces claim to have attacked two US warships and a commercial vessel in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The Houthis used anti-ship ballistic missiles and bomb-carrying drones to carry out the attacks.

“We targeted the Contship Ono in the Red Sea with several ballistic missiles and drones, and the attack was accurate,” Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree told the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV channel.

According to the Houthi spokesman, the force also targeted the US destroyer, which the Houthis identified as the Cole in the Gulf of Aden, with several drones and hit the target. In addition, the Houthis also attacked another US destroyer, identified as the Laboon, with several ballistic missiles.

According to Mr. Saree, the Houthi attacks took place after two US destroyers moved through the group's controlled area towards the northern Red Sea. The Houthis affirmed that their attacks will continue until the conflict in the Gaza Strip ends.

Meanwhile, Reuters quoted a US official as saying that there was no information to corroborate the Houthi claim that two of its warships were attacked. The ship's management company Contship Ono issued a statement confirming: "The ship and crew are safe and there were no incidents affecting the ship's operations."

Earlier, the US Central Command said on August 6 that the US military had destroyed a number of drones, remote-controlled boats and ballistic missiles launched by Houthi forces at commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

After a two-week hiatus, the Houthis resumed their campaign of attacking commercial ships moving through the Red Sea on August 3, by launching a missile at a commercial ship in the Gulf of Aden.
