Houthi forces in Yemen claimed responsibility for attacks on two US warships and a commercial vessel in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The Houthis used anti-ship ballistic missiles and bomb-carrying drones to carry out these attacks.

On the Houthi-run al-Masirah television channel, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said: “We targeted the Contship Ono in the Red Sea with several ballistic missiles and drones, and the attack was accurate.”
According to a Houthi spokesperson, their forces also targeted a US destroyer, which the Houthis identified as the USS Cole, in the Gulf of Aden with several drones, striking the target. Additionally, the Houthis attacked another US destroyer, identified as the USS Laboon, with several ballistic missiles.
According to Saree, the Houthi attacks occurred after two US destroyers sailed through the area controlled by the group, heading north into the Red Sea. The Houthis asserted that their attacks would continue until the conflict in the Gaza Strip ended.

Meanwhile, Reuters quoted a US official as saying there was no information to corroborate the Houthi claim that two of its warships were attacked. The company managing the Contship Ono issued a statement affirming: "The ship and crew are safe and there were no incidents affecting the ship's operations."
Earlier, on August 6, the US Central Command announced that the US military had destroyed several drones, remote-controlled boats, and ballistic missiles launched by Houthi forces at commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
After a two-week hiatus, the Houthi rebels restarted their campaign against commercial ships transiting the Red Sea on August 3rd, launching missiles at a commercial vessel in the Gulf of Aden.
