International Conference 'The Role and Contribution of the UNESCO Movement to the Cultural Industry'

On the morning of August 5th, the Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations had the honor of hosting the 43rd Meeting of the Executive Board of the World Federation of UNESCO Associations and the International Conference "The Role and Contribution of the UNESCO Movement to the Cultural Industry" in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province.

The conference was attended by diplomat and journalist Nguyen Xuan Thang, President of the Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations, and ex officio member of the Executive Board of the World Federation of UNESCO Associations; Mr. Bolat Akchulakov, President of the World Federation of UNESCO Associations, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and former Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan; Mr. Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, and President of the Vietnam Journalists Association ; Ms. Assel Utegenova, representative of the Africa and External Relations Department of UNESCO; Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Deputy Head of the Delegation Affairs Committee of the National Assembly Standing Committee, and Member of the 15th National Assembly; Mr. Vu Minh Dao, Director of the Department of Culture and Education of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education; Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, Member of the National Assembly of Bac Ninh province, and member of the Committee on Culture and Education... Along with many delegates representing leaders of central and local departments, ministries, and agencies.

Mr. Bolat Akchulakov, President of the UNESCO World Federation, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and former Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, delivered a speech at the event.

The international conference "The Role and Contribution of the UNESCO Movement to the Cultural Industry" is a significant event in the economic and cultural fields in general, providing an opportunity for leaders, experts, businesses, and individuals from Vietnam and around the world to connect, meet, exchange ideas, share experiences, and propose solutions to build corporate culture and develop the cultural industry in Vietnam. At the Executive Board meeting, WFUCA member states reported, summarized, and evaluated implementation activities during the 2023-2024 period; and adopted, amended, and supplemented the Charter of the World Federation of UNESCO Associations. The conference elected leaders for the new term and discussed several issues related to the preparation for the 44th Conference. A notable highlight of this year's conference was the sharing of experiences and discussions among delegates on the role of the cultural industry and the creative economy in promoting economic growth, creating livelihoods, and preserving cultural heritage.

The conference was attended by diplomat and journalist Nguyen Xuan Thang, President of the Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations, and ex officio member of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of UNESCO Associations.

At the conclusion of the conference, member states issued the Ha Long Declaration on "Creative Economy - Connecting Cultures for Peace and Sustainable Development". The declaration commits to promoting economic models based on equity and sustainability, improving the quality of life for all community members; supporting environmentally and socially friendly economic policies, ensuring that development does not harm future generations; protecting and preserving cultural heritage, promoting initiatives to transform this heritage into assets serving the development and increased well-being of humanity; respecting and encouraging cultural diversity, considering mutual understanding and respect between cultures as a prerequisite for peace and prosperity. 2024 also marks a decade since the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam issued Resolution No. 33-NQ/TW of the 9th Plenum, 11th term, on building and developing Vietnamese culture and people to meet the requirements of sustainable national development. From the aforementioned resolution, the cultural industry is not only a resource that creates economic value and contributes to the dissemination of a nation's cultural heritage, but also plays a crucial role in the agenda and activities of the UNESCO Movement worldwide. Through its programs and projects, the UNESCO Movement fosters understanding and respect among nations, ensures sustainable development, and transmits cultural values ​​to the future.

Mr. Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, and President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, delivered a speech at the conference.

The international conference "The Role and Contribution of the UNESCO Movement to the Cultural Industry" aimed to assess the achievements and contributions of the UNESCO movement in promoting and developing the cultural industry over the years, reaffirming the role and persistent efforts of the UNESCO network after decades of dedicated efforts to promote cultural development, and encouraging and calling on UNESCO associations and clubs worldwide to further strengthen their participation and contributions to shaping the future of the cultural industry. At the event, the Council for Cultural Values ​​of the Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations also awarded certificates and commendations to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the UNESCO movement and promoted cultural heritage values ​​in their respective fields.
