In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, former US President Trump stated that he was ready to debate Harris on Fox News on September 4th, while declining to participate in the previously scheduled debate on ABC.
Trump floated the idea before heading to a rally in Atlanta, where he would gather supporters in the same arena where Harris had spoken to an excited crowd of about 10,000 people last Tuesday.

The former US president said he had "agreed" to the plan to hold the debate on Fox News. He also said the debate would take place in Pennsylvania – a key state in the US presidential election system – in front of a live audience.
Harris's campaign called this a "ploy" and stated: "Donald Trump is running away in fear and trying to back out of the debate he agreed to and running straight to Fox News to save himself," Harris's campaign communications director, Michael Tyler, said in a statement. "He needs to... show up for the debate he committed to on September 10."
Trump is seeking to regain the initiative in the US presidential election campaign, a position he has been losing since Harris replaced Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee.
Harris is changing the landscape of this year's White House race, which had previously leaned heavily in Trump's favor. The US Vice President has mobilized numerous donations and assembled the team behind former President Barack Obama's two historic electoral victories.
On Friday, Harris secured the Democratic Party's official nomination with nearly unanimous support from the entire party. She is about to announce her vice presidential candidate, with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro as her leading contender.
