Today, August 13th, rice prices in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam increased, with paddy prices rising by 300-900 VND/kg and milled rice prices increasing by 50 VND/kg.
The rice market in localities across the Mekong Delta today generally sees low supply and stable prices from warehouses.

Specifically, in Sa Dec ( Dong Thap ), the supply is low, warehouses are buying quite a lot, and prices are fluctuating compared to yesterday. In An Cu (Soc Trang), transactions are stable, with a lot of poor-quality rice and little good-quality rice.
At retail markets, rice prices remained unchanged for individual rice varieties. Currently, Nang Nhen rice is listed at the highest price of 30,000 VND/kg; Jasmine rice at 18,000 - 20,000 VND/kg; Nang Hoa rice at 20,000 VND/kg; regular white rice fluctuating around 15,000 - 16,000 VND/kg; long-grain Thai fragrant rice at 20,000 - 21,000 VND/kg; Huong Lai rice at 20,000 VND/kg; Taiwanese fragrant rice at 21,000 VND/kg; common white rice at 17,000 VND/kg; regular Soc rice at 18,500 VND/kg; Soc Thai rice at 20,000 VND/kg; and Japanese rice at 22,000 VND/kg.
Regarding rice, observations in various localities indicate that farmers are experiencing low supply, high asking prices, and a slowdown in demand.
In Kien Giang, transactions are stable, and prices are trending upwards. In An Giang , the supply of unstaken summer-autumn rice is limited, and farmers are offering slightly higher prices. In Soc Trang, farmers are offering high prices, and buying activity has slowed down.
Specifically, according to updates from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, today's rice prices have been adjusted compared to yesterday. IR 50404 rice is priced around 7,400 - 7,600 VND/kg, an increase of 300 VND/kg; Dai Thom 8 rice is priced at 7,800 - 8,300 VND/kg, an increase of 400 - 700 VND/kg; OM 5451 rice is priced at 7,800 - 8,100 VND/kg, an increase of 800 - 900 VND/kg; OM 18 rice is priced at 8,000 - 8,300 VND/kg, an increase of 350 - 500 VND/kg; OM 380 rice is priced from 6,800 - 7,100 VND/kg; and Nhat rice is priced at 7,800 - 8,000 VND/kg. Nang Hoa 9 rice is priced at 6,900 - 7,000 VND/kg, and Nang Nhen rice (dried) is at 20,000 VND/kg.
Accordingly, the glutinous rice market remained unchanged compared to yesterday. IR 4625 glutinous rice (fresh) was priced at 7,500 - 7,800 VND/kg, stable from yesterday. Long An glutinous rice (fresh) was priced at 7,400 - 7,600 VND/kg. An Giang glutinous rice (fresh) was priced at 7,000 - 7,200 VND/kg, unchanged from yesterday.
Regarding rice, prices have been adjusted compared to yesterday. Specifically, IR 504 summer-autumn raw rice remains at 11,600 - 11,700 VND/kg, an increase of 50 VND/kg; finished IR 504 rice remains stable at 13,600 - 13,700 VND/kg.
By-product prices today have seen adjustments compared to yesterday. Currently, the price of OM 5451 broken rice remains at 9,400 - 9,500 VND/kg; the price of dry rice bran remains stable at 7,250 - 7,350 VND/kg.

On the export market, Vietnamese rice export prices have been adjusted compared to yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 100% broken rice is at 440 USD/ton, an increase of 5 USD; standard 5% broken rice remains stable at 570 USD/ton, an increase of 8 USD; and 25% broken rice is at 536 USD/ton, an increase of 7 USD.
According to the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection of Soc Trang province, the 2024 Summer-Autumn rice crop in Soc Trang province covered 140,436 hectares, exceeding the production plan by 0.8%; farmers in Soc Trang mainly used key varieties such as: OM5451, OM18, OM34, Dai Thom 8, ST group…
As of July 31st, according to data from the Department of Crop Production, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region have planted 1.465 million hectares out of the planned 1.48 million hectares for the 2024 Summer-Autumn crop. Approximately 730,000 hectares have been harvested, with a yield of about 60 quintals/hectare, resulting in an estimated production of 4.376 million tons of rice.
Along with the harvest of the summer-autumn rice crop, many localities have begun production of the autumn-winter rice crop and the main rice crop. In Tra Vinh, the autumn-winter crop started planting from August 5th to September 30th, focusing on two main phases. The main rice crop began sowing and transplanting from September 15th to October 15th in Chau Thanh and Tra Cu districts.
Following the trend in the domestic market, traders reported that Vietnamese 5% broken rice was being offered at $565 per ton, up from $560 per ton a week earlier. A trader in Ho Chi Minh City stated that demand from Philippine customers is increasing, while exports to the Philippines and Indonesia have risen in recent days.
