On August 9th, the Hanoi National University (VNU) Examination Center released the sample test questions for the 2025 High School Student Assessment (HSA) exam.
A new feature of the 2025 aptitude test at Hanoi National University is the addition of cluster questions, including a common question and specific questions designed to assess candidates' abilities from low to high levels.
Cluster questions will leverage rich data sources, assessing students' thinking skills across disciplines and across fields. These are changes in the construction of question banks for competency assessment exams.

Specifically, the structure of the 2025 HSA aptitude test sample includes 50 questions in mathematics and data processing, and 50 questions in the field of literature and language. These are the two compulsory sections of the HSA test.
The third section allows candidates to choose between Science or English. The time allotted for the third section is 60 minutes. Candidates choose 3 out of 5 topics: physics, chemistry, biology, history, and geography; each topic has 17 questions (including 1 test question) to complete the Science section.
The English section consists of 50 multiple-choice questions designed for admission to foreign language programs.
The HSA exam consists of approximately 75% multiple-choice questions with four options and 25% fill-in-the-blank questions.
While last year, cluster questions only appeared in the language section of the exam, from 2025 onwards, the Hanoi National University's aptitude test will include cluster questions in all sections and topics. These cluster questions consist of a common question and individual questions designed to assess candidates' abilities from low to high levels.

The sample exam provides information on question formats and exam structure to help students develop study plans that meet the exam requirements.
From September 1st onwards, candidates can access the website https://hsa.edu.vn/ of Hanoi National University to take the exam on a computer.

In both the sample and official exams, the questions are not arranged from easy to difficult but are randomly shuffled according to a fixed matrix. Candidates take the sample exams to familiarize themselves with the exam format, review and supplement their knowledge and skills, and practice time management during the exam.
The test score is calculated based on the total number of correct answers; incorrect answers do not result in point deductions. In the official test, the score will be displayed on the computer after the candidate completes all sections of the test. Most universities that use aptitude test results may accept applications based on the total test score.
However, some schools may have additional requirements regarding the selection topics in the Science section (part 3). The English section is designed to assess foreign language proficiency for admission to foreign language training programs.
In 2024, the Hanoi National University's aptitude test will be held in 6 sessions, starting from March 23rd to June 2nd, 2024, at 19 testing locations.
Statistics on the number of candidates taking the 2024 exam in various provinces and cities show that, excluding Hanoi, Nam Dinh is the province with the highest number of registered candidates, followed by Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Hai Duong, Nghe An, Hung Yen, Hai Phong, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang , etc.
The total number of registrations in 2024 was over 104,000, of which 96.2% of candidates actually took the exam, and 21 candidates were disciplined for violating regulations.
