On April 23, the Ho Chi Minh City Committee for Overseas Vietnamese decided to award certificates of merit to 50 overseas Vietnamese who have made many contributions to the construction and development of Ho Chi Minh City, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
The list includes many Vietnamese scientists, experts, businessmen, and intellectuals living and working in many countries such as France, Japan, the US, Australia, Singapore, etc. Specifically including:
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha (1930 - 2020), Vietnamese in France (posthumously awarded). He once held the position of General Secretary of the Overseas Vietnamese Union in France, initiated many patriotic cultural and artistic activities and actively supported the resistance war. After returning to Vietnam, he became Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly and Head of the Overseas Vietnamese Committee of Ho Chi Minh City (the predecessor name of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese in Ho Chi Minh City).
Dr. Nguyen Tri Dung (1948 - 2024), Vietnamese in Japan (posthumously awarded). He was an economic development expert, worked at the United Nations and was the founder of Tri Dung Business School - one of the first private schools in Vietnam to train in business administration. He also founded Minh Tran Company and the "Vietnam Dream" program, connecting overseas Vietnamese resources for the country. In 2015, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun by the Japanese Government for his contributions to promoting Vietnam - Japan relations.

Dr. Nguyen Chanh Khe (1952 - 2020), Vietnamese in the US (posthumously awarded). He is a typical overseas scientist in the field of high technology, having worked at large corporations such as Kodak and Hewlett-Packard (USA). He returned to Vietnam in 2002, working as Director of the R&D Center of Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park. He and his colleagues successfully developed the first domestic carbon nanotube material. He left a great mark in technology transfer and training of young Vietnamese scientific human resources, with more than 60 international patents.
Dr. Do Tan Si (1942 - 2024), Vietnamese in Belgium (posthumously awarded). He is a doctor of nuclear physics, and taught at the National University of Mons. During his time studying and working in Belgium, he actively participated in the patriotic movement, founded the Association of Students and Patriotic Overseas Vietnamese in Belgium, and published the Liberation newspaper to support the resistance war against the US. After 1975, he continued to contribute to overseas Vietnamese affairs, held the position of Vice President of the Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese in Ho Chi Minh City and was a member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front for many terms.
Prof. Dr. Dang Luong Mo, a Vietnamese living in Japan, is a professor at Hosei University in Tokyo. He is the founder and senior advisor of the Integrated Circuit Design Research and Education Center (ICDREC); former advisor to the Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University.
Professor Vo Van Toi, Vietnamese in the US, Assistant to the Board of Directors and Development of Science and Technology in the field of health and life, International University - Ho Chi Minh City National University.
Professor Ton Anh Tran, Vietnamese in Australia, Director of the Orthopaedic Trauma Center, Monash Health Hospital, Monash University, Dandenong, Melbourne, Australia.
Professor Luong Van Hy, Vietnamese in Canada, lecturer at the Faculty of Anthropology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, honorary lecturer - Ho Chi Minh City National University.
Professor Tran Hai Linh, Vietnamese in Korea, member of the 10th Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (2024 - 2029), Chairman of the Vietnam - Korea Business and Investment Association (VKBIA).
Professor Nguyen Xuan Nhung, a Vietnamese in Germany, scientific collaborator, cooperative lecturer at the Eye Hospital, runs the German-Vietnamese ophthalmology cooperation program.
Professor Duong Nguyen Vu, a Vietnamese living in France, is the founding director and chairman of systems science at the John von Neumann Institute, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.
Professor Nguyen Van Tuan, a Vietnamese in Australia. He is a professor at the University of New South Wales (Australia), Director of the Garvan Osteoporosis Research Institute - Australia.
Professor Vu Minh Khuong, Vietnamese in Singapore, lecturer at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
Dr. Tran Ha Anh, Vietnamese in France, former Head of the Overseas Vietnamese Science and Technology Club.
Dr. Vo Ta Han, Vietnamese in the US, expert in finance - banking and business administration.
Dr. Vo Ta Han is famous for his book donation program to universities in Vietnam. He brought back the first 1,500 books when Vietnam was still under the US embargo.
