On April 27, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated with the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province to organize a conference to summarize 5 years of implementing Project 1797, emphasizing the role of overseas Vietnamese in bringing Vietnamese goods to the world.
Durian and lychee go to Europe for the first time
At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien - Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that in the 5 years of implementing the project, Vietnamese businesses for the first time exported fresh Bac Giang lychee shipments to Northwestern European countries, and exported Dong Thap Chu sand mangoes, bananas... to the EU market by both air and sea.
In particular, overseas Vietnamese businesses have successfully exported fresh whole durian to the EU, dominating market share and competing directly with other rivals such as Thailand, Malaysia, etc.
"With the connection of overseas Vietnamese, Vietnamese products are not only distributed through distribution channels of Vietnamese people abroad but also gradually appear and penetrate the shelves of supermarket systems, local distribution chains and large commercial floors," said Mr. Kien.
In addition, many other Vietnamese products such as Trung Nguyen coffee, Vifon instant pho, Vietnamese rice and seafood products, industrial products such as textiles, handicrafts, and processed foods are also introduced and exported to many places around the world.

Over the past five years, the project has utilized valuable resources from the overseas Vietnamese community to boost exports, promote culture and enhance Vietnam's economic position.
From the first year of implementing the project in 2019, Vietnam's total import-export turnover reached more than 516 billion USD, and by the end of 2024, the export turnover will reach more than 786 billion USD.

Also at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Hong Hue, Chairman of the Association of Overseas Vietnamese Entrepreneurs, proposed the need to establish a fund to support overseas Vietnamese businesses, with the coordination and contributions of domestic and foreign businesses, to mobilize financial resources from the overseas Vietnamese business community.
Build a global trade information portal that can organize digital markets and periodic online fairs between domestic and overseas enterprises.
Forming a Global Vietnamese Goods Alliance to build a cohesive ecosystem and comprehensive support for Vietnamese goods to the world.
In addition, Mr. Hue also proposed expanding the role of diplomatic representative agencies to enhance the effectiveness of economic diplomacy and build specific policies for the young generation of overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs./.
Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs - said that Project 1797 contributes to promoting the country's economic and trade development through goods export activities and affirming the brand and quality of Vietnamese products. "The success of the project's five-year implementation period must be attributed to the cooperation, companionship and creativity in implementation of the Vietnamese community abroad, especially the coordinating and connecting role of business associations, experts and Vietnamese intellectuals abroad," said Ms. Hang. |
