Late this afternoon, August 13th, in an interview with Thanh Nien Newspaper, Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Higher Education Department (Ministry of Education and Training), stated that the initial verification results from the Ministry of Education and Training indicate that the suspicion regarding the validity of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's high school diploma, also known as Venerable Thich Chan Quang, is well-founded.

We are coordinating with security agencies to further clarify the matter.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy, in the past, upon receiving information regarding Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's diploma, the Ministry of Education and Training requested reports from relevant educational institutions. Simultaneously, the Ministry of Education and Training conducted a thorough review, inspection, verification, and coordinated efforts to clarify the information and evidence, adhering strictly to legal regulations and principles.
Currently, public opinion is basing its claims on a document from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training responding to the Government's Religious Affairs Committee, alleging that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet does not possess a high school diploma or has not yet graduated from high school. However, the crucial point to clarify is whether the information verified by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is accurate and matches the information on the diploma Mr. Vuong Tan Viet actually possesses.
The Ministry of Education and Training has received information and a written response from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, and has also checked records in the Ministry's archives more than a month ago. Initial information indicates that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's name was not on the list of candidates for the 1989 supplementary high school graduation exam or the list of recipients of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training's supplementary high school diplomas.
The Ministry of Education and Training has initially verified that the suspicions regarding the validity of this diploma are well-founded. However, the Ministry of Education and Training still needs to continue coordinating with relevant authorities and security agencies to investigate and clarify other important information. First, it needs to verify whether the diploma in question truly belongs to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet with the aforementioned information. Second, if the information on the diploma does not match the information on the diploma owned by Mr. Vuong Tan Viet, further clarification is needed through other channels.
An independent peer review is currently underway for Mr. Viet's doctoral dissertation.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy, the Ministry of Education and Training has conducted an inspection and verification of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's training records at Hanoi Law University. The training records are essentially consistent with applicable legal regulations for Mr. Vuong Tan Viet. While the records show some shortcomings in the training process, these have been rectified during that period.
The next step the Ministry of Education and Training is taking is to send independent reviewers to assess the quality of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's doctoral dissertation, in accordance with current regulations on doctoral training. Based on the assessment results, the Ministry of Education and Training will establish a dissertation review committee in accordance with regulations. This process requires additional time to organize and implement.
Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy stated: "The Ministry of Education and Training is a state management agency, and its decisions and actions must be made cautiously and in strict compliance with the law. Furthermore, during the verification process, some information was not allowed to be released until sufficient evidence was available. The Ministry of Education and Training proactively coordinated with relevant agencies to obtain clear and reliable information before the competent authority made an official announcement."
