These days, despite the frequent storms, Dang Huy Man, a delivery driver in Ninh Kieu district ( Can Tho city), still sticks to his job. The delivery driver shared that the more the weather restricts people from going out, the more opportunities he has to earn money.
“On rainy days, not only does the demand for orders increase, but delivery fees are also subsidized. The heavier the rain and the longer the delivery distance, the higher the service fee. Compared to the beginning of the rainy season, the number of orders has increased by about 20-30%, especially during peak hours. As a result, daily income has improved by 50,000-80,000 VND/day,” Mr. Man said.
However, according to Mr. Man, compared to this time last year, the number of orders is still lower due to the increasing number of shippers and the high competition for orders: "During the peak rainy season last year, I received orders continuously, and my income sometimes reached 500,000 VND/day. Now I only get about 300,000 VND/day."
Ms. Le Hong Diem, the owner of a beverage shop in Ninh Kieu district (Can Tho city), said that due to the stormy weather, the number of customers coming to the shop to drink has decreased significantly. Meanwhile, the number of customers ordering online and requesting delivery has increased sharply, accounting for about 60% of the total orders each day.
"Although there aren't many customers visiting the store, thanks to the combination with online sales, orders are still coming in continuously, especially at lunchtime and in the afternoon. The number of online orders accounts for almost half of the total orders. Revenue on rainy days is only about the same or slightly higher than on normal days. Because the number of drinks sold is similar, the shop saves on costs like electricity and water, as we only sell takeout," Ms. Diem shared.
Since the rainy season began, customer demand for pet care services has increased, leading to a rise in revenue for Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia's shop (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city). Bathing, grooming, and drying are popular services, with prices ranging from 70,000 to 400,000 VND per session, depending on the size of the pet.
“For about the past two months, the weather has been changing, with a lot of rain, so on average, every 1-2 weeks, customers bring their pets to my shop for grooming, bathing, etc. Because if they do it themselves at home, the fur isn't dried properly, making pets susceptible to skin and fur diseases. Thanks to this, my shop earns 130-150 million VND/month (before deducting expenses), which is 30-50 million VND/month higher than usual,” Mr. Nghia said.
