The training program is completely different.
The training course for referee supervisors in the northern region for the 2024-2025 national professional football leagues was held at the headquarters of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). Prior to this, on August 12th, the referee supervisor team held a debriefing session, evaluated their professional work after the 2023-2024 season, and took a comprehensive test.
The training course is divided into two phases: Phase 1 will be held in the northern region from August 12th to August 17th, and Phase 2 will be held in the southern region from August 25th to August 30th. This regional division aims to optimize travel and living conditions for referee supervisors and referees, while also maximizing training efficiency.
The training course is quite different from previous ones.
Notably, the pre-season training program for the 2024-2025 professional football season differs significantly from previous ones. The training sessions are longer, with a detailed curriculum developed by the professional department, closely following real-world issues and developments.
Many important topics were discussed, such as changes and additions to the rules of football, focusing on issues related to match supervision and management. In addition, issues related to the operation of VAR and match management with VAR in use were also considered, with preparations aimed at implementing VAR in all national league matches.
VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts and contributions of the supervisory and refereeing teams to the overall success of the 2023-2024 national professional football leagues. He emphasized that the VFF and the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) will continue to create favorable conditions to support the supervisory and refereeing forces in better fulfilling their roles and responsibilities in the upcoming season.

In this context, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) aim to achieve 100% VAR application in national league matches. This will contribute to ensuring greater accuracy and assisting referees in officiating. Simultaneously, training courses on VAR technology are organized to ensure referees, assistant referees, and technicians are proficient in its use. However, even with VAR support, the referee remains the one making the final decisions on the field. Therefore, improving the professional skills of supervisors and referees is extremely necessary.
100% of referees and assistant referees in the North are fit and ready for the 2024-2025 season.
Also on the afternoon of August 13th, referees and assistant referees of the VFF participated in a pre-season training course. At the end of the test, 100% of the referees and assistant referees completed the course without any errors.
Passing the physical fitness test is a prerequisite for referees and assistant referees to be allowed to officiate matches in the Vietnamese football league system. In this training session, 50 referees and assistant referees had to pass physical fitness tests according to FIFA standards, consisting of two parts: speed and endurance.
100% of the referees and assistant referees passed the fitness test.
After completing their physical fitness tests, the referees and assistant referees from the northern region will continue their training course, which will last until August 18th, covering many important topics. These include changes and additions to the laws of football, a focus on analyzing issues related to match supervision and management, and the implementation of VAR.
Following the conclusion of the northern training course, the southern regional training course will take place from August 25th to August 30th at Thien Hong Hotel and Thong Nhat Stadium (Ho Chi Minh City).
