On the afternoon of August 2nd, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department, in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Volleyball Federation, held a press conference to announce the first Ho Chi Minh City Police Department Open Volleyball Tournament, competing for the "Ho Chi Minh City Police Newspaper" Cup - 2024.
The tournament, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Police, was held to celebrate the 79th anniversary of National Day on September 2nd and the 79th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the People's Police Force on August 19th. The tournament was even more meaningful as it coincided with the Ho Chi Minh City Police Force receiving the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.

Speaking at the press conference launching the tournament, Colonel Bui Ngoc Giap, Head of the Special Topics Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Police, and Head of the tournament organizing committee, said that despite being the first time it has been organized, the tournament brings together 8 volleyball teams currently competing in the national championship, the national A-league, and a guest team from Cambodia to participate in the competition.
The tournament will take place from August 12th to 16th at Tan Binh Gymnasium. The teams are divided into two groups. Group A includes the Ho Chi Minh City Police men's volleyball team; the Ben Tre province men's volleyball team; the Tra Vinh province men's volleyball team; and the Vinh Long province men's volleyball team.
Group B consists of: Binh Duong Construction Materials Joint Stock Company men's volleyball team; Lavie Long An men's volleyball team; Ho Chi Minh City men's volleyball team and Visakha Club - Cambodia men's volleyball team.
The teams will compete in a round-robin format to select the top four teams with the highest scores to advance to the semi-finals and finals. The winning team will receive a trophy, a flag, gold medals, and a prize worth 60 million VND.
