DNVN - In the first seven months of the year, fruit and vegetable exports earned $3.8 billion. It is predicted that by the end of the year, fruit and vegetable export turnover will experience a dramatic increase, potentially setting a new record – exceeding $7 billion.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , by the end of July 2024, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports had earned $3.8 billion, a sharp increase of 24.3% compared to the same period last year.
Regarding export markets in the first half of this year, China led with a turnover of $2.16 billion, an increase of 22.5% compared to the same period last year and accounting for nearly 65% of the total export turnover of this industry in our country.
Notably, South Korea has surpassed the US to become the second largest customer for Vietnamese fruit and vegetable exports. In the first half of this year, fruit and vegetable exports to this market reached $164 million, a 55.6% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Accordingly, among the top 10 key markets, export turnover to South Korea recorded strong growth, second only to Thailand.
Recently, the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) announced more good news: Vietnamese pomelos are officially permitted for import into the South Korean market. Specifically, on July 30th, after three months of extensive consultation with relevant parties, the Korea Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (APQA) officially announced on its website the import regulations for fresh pomelos from Vietnam to South Korea.

Given the opportunities in the export market for fruits and vegetables, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien recommended that businesses focus on quality. This is the key to maintaining growth and expanding markets.
The agricultural sector aims to achieve fruit and vegetable exports of $7-7.5 billion in 2024, a target that is considered achievable. However, in both the short and long term, localities with key export fruit and vegetable groups need to plan and maintain production areas, and apply high technology in all stages from planting to preliminary processing and processing.
This includes focusing on developing integrated production chains. Because only with a stable supply and guaranteed quality can the challenges of exporting and securing markets be assured.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will work with localities to develop production and export strategies for the fruit and vegetable sector. The Ministry will also coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Vietnamese trade offices abroad to regularly update new regulations and standards from importing markets.
