With many innovations from organization to theme, this year's competition recorded superiority in both quantity and quality with 488 teams (more than 1,500 contestants) competing from 369 primary, secondary and high schools in 28 provinces and cities nationwide such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Da Nang, Hue...

On August 9-10, the Northern Regional Finals kicked off with over 200 teams. Next, the top teams will compete with the best representatives from the Central and Southern regions in the national finals.

From there, the 16 best teams representing Vietnam will be selected to participate in the WORLD ROBOT OLYMPIAD 2024 - taking place in Türkiye. In addition, the 20 best teams in Group B0 (ages 6 to 9) will also have the opportunity to participate in the International Robot Competition in Singapore.

Attending the official opening event of the contest, Mr. Lasse Pedersen Hjortshøj - Counselor of the Danish Embassy in Vietnam shared: “We are very pleased to witness the annual growth in both the quantity and quality of contestants in the contest, proving that the values brought by the contest are being positively received. At the same time, the contest also received the support of local leaders, the education sector, schools and businesses interested in the development of children and the sustainable future of the earth. We thank all of them for their support”.

Each year, the competition will have a major theme, revolving around issues that are of global concern and have a major impact on the younger generation. The 2024 competition will be launched with the theme “EARTH ALLIES”, giving contestants the opportunity to learn and create solutions related to sustainable development and environmental protection.

Sharing more about Vinamilk's participation in this year's competition, Mr. Nguyen Quang Tri - CEO of Vinamilk said: "While mastering technology is an indispensable skill for future global citizens, global climate change is an issue of special concern and requires the joint action of all of us. These are also the common points that Vinamilk and the ROBOTACON WRO program in 2024 are aiming for when organizing the competition with the theme "Earth Allies".

We hope the contest will help students develop their thinking in applying technology and creating solutions to protect the environment and our common home, the Earth - a noble responsibility that young people need to be imbued with right from their school days."

Technology towards a sustainable future

With the theme “Earth Allies”, Vinamilk and the organizing committee designed challenges for groups of students aged 6 to 19 to solve with creative solutions in technology and automated robots such as: Sustainable agriculture - Green farm (Elementary); Building green city (Intermediate); Protecting the Earth home (Advanced).

According to the teachers and experts of the contest, the special surprise of this year's contest is that the topic not only requires students' robotics skills, but also partly simulates green solutions that are being implemented in reality such as collecting waste, recycling cans or planting forests to protect the Earth.

From there, it helps children develop the ability to apply technology to solve problems such as excessive depletion of natural resources, environmental pollution, global warming, climate change, etc.

Mr. Hoang Minh Cuong - Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee stated that sustainable development is both an inevitable need and a requirement for Vietnam to participate in the global production chain and enter the markets of developed countries in the world. To do this, it is necessary to pay attention to children and train them from an early age.

“I highly appreciate this contest for its chosen theme of “Earth Allies”, as well as the way it was organized and the way it was asked to help equip children with knowledge and awareness of protecting the earth, paying more attention to the environment and sustainable development. The participation of businesses is also very important because it helps students have practical access to modern means and new technologies being applied in production, creating a useful playground for students,” Mr. Cuong commented.

Another special activity of this year’s competition is that the contestants who reach the National Finals will have the opportunity to participate in a field trip to Green Farm dairy farms and Vinamilk dairy factory. The trip will help them learn about the application of high technology, robots, AI… as well as practices on sustainable development and environmental protection.
