Could you please share the outstanding achievements that ASEAN has achieved in the process of formation and development over the past 57 years?

Since its establishment in 1967, with the aim of promoting regional cooperation and stability, ASEAN has undergone an impressive journey of formation and development and achieved many important achievements. Some of the notable achievements include:

First of all, it plays an important role in promoting regional economic growth. Since 1967, Southeast Asia’s GDP has increased to about 2.4 trillion USD. This remarkable economic development is thanks to intra-regional trade and connectivity, with total trade value increasing from 10 billion USD in 1967 to 2.3 trillion USD in 2015.

In terms of economic integration, ASEAN has succeeded in establishing the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015, aiming to create a common market and production base with free flow of goods, services, investment and skilled labor. Thereby, increasing trade and investment among member countries.

Politically, ASEAN plays an important role in maintaining peace and stability in Southeast Asia, through its policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of member states and promoting peaceful conflict resolution. At the same time, ASEAN promotes regional cooperation in many areas such as human rights, disaster management, environmental protection, counter-terrorism, infrastructure development, etc.

In terms of culture and society, ASEAN has promoted cultural exchange and mutual understanding among member countries through many initiatives such as the ASEAN Digital Archive of Cultural Heritage and the ASEAN Youth Cultural Forum.

In terms of foreign affairs, the Association strengthens relations with external countries and organizations through dialogue partnerships. Thereby, increasing influence in the international arena and contributing to regional peace and prosperity.

In summary, ASEAN’s achievements over the past 57 years have demonstrated the Association’s commitment to promoting regional cooperation, economic development and cultural exchange in Southeast Asia. The celebration of ASEAN’s 57th Anniversary serves as a reminder of our shared commitment to a cohesive and prosperous Southeast Asia.

How does the Ambassador assess Vietnam's current international role and position and its significance for the development of the "common home" ASEAN?

Vietnam's current international role in the ASEAN community is considered prominent and influential.

Since joining ASEAN in 1995, Vietnam has actively participated in various forums and commitments to contribute to regional economic, political and social development.

Vietnam’s position in ASEAN is affirmed by its growing economic strength, political stability and diplomatic activities. The S-shaped country has played an important role in supporting ASEAN solidarity and maintaining regional peace and security.

Vietnam's participation in ASEAN-led initiatives such as the AEC, ARF, and EAS has helped strengthen the Association's reputation and relations in the international arena.

By nurturing the ASEAN “common home”, Vietnam’s active participation in regional cooperation and integration efforts has contributed to maintaining unity and solidarity among member states. By promoting inclusive growth, sustainable development and regional connectivity, Vietnam has contributed to creating a favorable environment for achieving the ASEAN Community’s goals of economic prosperity, socio-cultural development and political stability.

It can be said that Vietnam's international role and position play an important role in orienting and positioning ASEAN's importance in the international arena. Vietnam's commitment to regional cooperation and integration has strengthened ASEAN's position as a key factor in promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.
