Press Release No. 03/2024: BIDV - The best performing bank in Vietnam in implementing ESG bond issuance transactions in 2023

The award recognizes BIDV 's pioneering spirit and high level of credibility in the capital market for successfully issuing VND 2,500 billion in bonds compliant with the green bond principles of the International Capital Markets Association (ICMA), making BIDV the first bank to issue green bonds according to international standards in Vietnam.

Recognizing the role and significance of sustainable growth and a green economy for the overall Vietnamese economy, from the very beginning of developing its business strategy for the period 2021-2025 with a vision to 2030, BIDV has established the goal of "towards sustainable development" as a consistent objective in its banking operations, making green credit and green financing a priority in its development strategy. To increase funding for green and sustainable projects, BIDV has identified green bonds as a crucial capital raising channel and is focusing its resources on implementing them early.

BIDV's green bond issuance is based on a green bond framework with four pillars: Utilization of funds raised from bond issuance; Project evaluation and selection process; Management of funds raised from bond issuance; and Post-issuance reporting. BIDV's green bond framework has been independently assessed and rated SQS2 (very good) by Moody's International Rating Agency, confirming BIDV's high level of compliance and transparency in bond issuance and post-issuance management, ensuring that green bond funds are used for the committed purposes.

As of the end of Q3/2023, BIDV was one of the banks with the highest green credit outstanding in the system, with a loan volume reaching nearly VND 71,000 billion, accounting for approximately 5% of total outstanding loans, an 11% increase compared to 2022. Of this, the clean energy and renewable energy sector accounted for 86% of the total green loan outstanding with 1,600 projects from 1,300 customers, while the remainder was in the fields of environmental protection and restoration, water management, green agriculture , waste treatment, etc.

Not only is BIDV a pioneer in deploying new and modern financial products, but it has also consistently led the way in establishing and developing the domestic bond market and is the leading bond issuer in the market, with a total issuance volume of nearly VND 115,000 billion from 2018 to the present. Along with the aforementioned award, BIDV has also received awards from prestigious international magazines such as The Asset and FinanceAsia, recognizing it as the Best Bond Issuer and Best Bond Issuance Advisory Firm in Vietnam.
