On August 10th, Coteccons Construction Joint Stock Company (Coteccons) honored Mr. Mai Le Duy Quang (born in 1980, residing in Quang Ngai province) for his humanitarian spirit, courageous actions, and selfless act of saving a driver in the multi-vehicle accident at the foot of Phu My Bridge on the afternoon of August 8th.
Coteccons also awarded a scholarship to Mr. Quang's daughter along with a special prize. A representative from Coteccons shared that Mr. Quang has been working on Coteccons' key construction sites for over 10 years.
Mr. Quang stated that he works on construction projects in Thu Duc City and has many years of experience in the construction industry. He has a wife and a 13-year-old daughter. Due to difficult living conditions, he left his wife and daughter in his hometown and came to Ho Chi Minh City alone to rent accommodation in Thu Duc City to work on construction projects.

On the afternoon of August 8th, he was riding his motorbike through the area where a multi-vehicle accident had occurred. He quickly stopped his vehicle and, together with local residents, rescued a man trapped inside a vehicle, bringing him to safety.
“I climbed onto the roof of the car to see if anyone was trapped inside. I saw a driver trapped and trying to call for help. I immediately broke the windshield, intending to pull him out, but the driver was stuck by his seatbelt.”
Then, someone found scissors, cut the seatbelt, and together they pulled the driver out of the car. Just one or two minutes later, the car burst into flames.
According to Mr. Quang, at that moment he was only thinking about saving people. After successfully rescuing the driver, Mr. Quang received sincere thanks. Afterwards, he quietly drove back to the construction site in Thu Duc City to continue his work.

On the night the incident occurred, images and videos of him saving people went viral on social media. Many relatives and colleagues recognized him after watching the clips. People called to inquire about him, which made him very happy because his actions had been widely publicized.
However, Mr. Quang didn't dare call himself a "hero" because anyone would have acted the same way in that situation. He also believes that the credit doesn't belong solely to him, but to everyone present at the time. "At that moment, everyone was shouting and trying to save people. Some were holding scissors, others were holding fire extinguishers to put out the fire. If it weren't for everyone, I alone couldn't have rescued the driver from the car," Mr. Quang said.
As reported by SGGP newspaper, on the afternoon of August 8th, driver D. (born in 1987, residing in Kien Giang province) was driving a truck from District 7 to Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City). While descending the Phu My bridge, the truck crashed into the median strip. The truck then continued to collide with other vehicles traveling ahead. The incident resulted in two passenger cars and one truck catching fire; four other vehicles were severely damaged. Several people trapped in the vehicles were rescued by local residents and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Following the accident, many passersby bravely rescued the victims. These acts were filmed by bystanders, posted on social media, and received much praise.
