Mr. Le Thanh Binh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Vinh province and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, said that the purpose of the two events was to honor and promote the brand and unique values of Tra Vinh wax coconut.
The event took place from August 25-31 in Cau Ke district. The Tra Vinh 100th Anniversary Wax Coconut Festival featured 12 main activities, including highlights such as the opening ceremony of the festival, a fair of wax coconut products, seminars, and competitions. The opening ceremony included a 15-minute fireworks display.
The Vu Lan Festival Week will begin with the announcement of the decision by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognizing the festival as a national intangible cultural heritage, followed by festival activities, cultural events, culinary events, sports events, folk games, etc.

This will raise awareness of building, preserving, and developing the brand of OCOP products throughout the province; attract the participation of people in promoting the values and brand of waxy coconuts, and encourage efforts and determination to bring processed products made from waxy coconuts to the global market.
At the same time, we will continue to preserve, maintain, and promote the Vu Lan Festival, a religious festival of the Chinese community in Cau Ke district, which has been included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Currently, the total area of waxy coconut cultivation in Tra Vinh province reaches 1,000 hectares, increasing annually compared to only 43 hectares in 2005. The average yield of waxy coconuts is over 3 million fruits per year, providing approximately four times the economic benefit of growing regular coconut trees, thus bringing high economic returns to local people.
Waxy coconut is also one of the favorite dishes of many international diners, offering a unique and appealing culinary experience.
