Ho Chi Minh City aims to become the economic , financial and service center of Asia.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just approved the Project to build the City into a major service center of the country and the region with high-class, modern and high value-added service industries.

According to the outline of the Project "Building the city into a major service center of the country and the region with high-class, modern, high-value-added service industries" recently approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, in recent years, the City's economic growth model has been shifting in the right direction, gradually increasing the proportion of services compared to industrial and agricultural production.

In the period 2011 - 2022, the service sector accounted for the largest proportion in the City's GRDP structure and tended to increase, from 57.67% in 2010 to 62.54% in 2020 and 64.2% in 2022.

Ho Chi Minh City has always maintained its position as the service center as well as the service growth pole of Vietnam, contributing 25.7% to the growth of the country's service sector.

However, most of the City's service sector units are still small and medium-sized; leading service units that play a leading role in the market have not yet been formed; investment capital is limited; natural connections in the vertical and horizontal consolidation trend are still limited and, in particular, digital transformation to adapt to the general development trend of the world is not strong.

Ho Chi Minh City strives to develop on par with major cities in the world by 2045.

Therefore, the project is aimed at overcoming limitations and creating a breakthrough for the service sector of the economic locomotive. This also aims to turn Ho Chi Minh City into a major service center at the national, Southeast Asian and Asian levels in areas with competitive advantages.

With this project, the City will select to develop key, main service groups with added value with appropriate scale and proportion as potential competitive advantages; will define high-end, modern services that need to be developed, with specific criteria, in accordance with international practices, and statistical indicators as a basis for measurement and monitoring.

The goal of the Project is to strive to build Ho Chi Minh City into a modern service-industrial city by 2030, a locomotive of digital economy, digital society, an economic, financial, commercial, cultural, educational, scientific and technological center of the whole country, deeply integrated internationally, with a prominent position in the Southeast Asian region.

By 2045, build Ho Chi Minh City to develop on par with major cities in the world, becoming an economic, financial and service center of Asia; an attractive global destination; with distinctive economic and cultural development, people with high quality of life; the core of the Ho Chi Minh City region and the Southeast region, the growth pole of the whole country; a place to attract international financial institutions and economic groups. By 2050, Ho Chi Minh City will become a coastal city, a global, sustainable urban area, with distinctive economic and cultural development, high quality of life, the core of the Ho Chi Minh City region, the Southeast region and the growth pole of the whole country.
