The Mexican Federal Electoral Court of Justice (TEPJF) has upheld the legitimacy of the general election held on June 2nd. Accordingly, candidate Claudia Sheinbaum was declared the legitimate winner, officially becoming the first female-elected president in the history of Mexico and North America.

TEPJF stated that candidate Claudia Sheinbaum, representing the Sigamos Haciendo Historia (We Continue to Make History) coalition, won the election after securing 35,924,519 votes, representing 59.76% of the total votes, thus legally qualifying her to officially become President of Mexico.
In a statement issued on August 14, TEPJF said that after a thorough review and examination of the procedures related to the general election, with the participation of an international observer group, the agency declared that the general election was conducted legally, democratically, and in compliance with the provisions of the Mexican Constitution.
According to Sintesis, under Mexican electoral law, Claudia Sheinbaum can only be officially recognized as the winner of the presidential election after receiving the aforementioned approval from the TEPJF. She is scheduled to serve as president from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2030.

Previously, the official vote count results announced by the National Electoral Institute (INE) on June 6 showed that with 59.7% of the votes, Claudia Sheinbaum was far ahead of her two rivals, Xóchitl Gálvez – representing the Fuerza y Corazón por México (Strength and Heart for Mexico) coalition – and Jorge Álvarez Máynez – representing the Movimiento Ciudadano (People's Movement) coalition, with vote percentages of 27.4% and 10.4% respectively.
Furthermore, according to INE, with a lead of 32.3 percentage points over her closest rival, candidate Sochitl Gálvez, Claudia Sheinbaum also became the president-elect who received the most votes in Mexican history.
Born in 1962, Ms. Sheinbaum is a close ally of President Lopez Obrador. A former environmental scientist , she worked at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the organization that received the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. Prior to running for president, she served as mayor of Mexico City from 2018 to 2023.
