On August 6, Reuters reported that leaders of the student protests in Bangladesh had demanded the dissolution of Parliament and warned they would impose a "strict program" if their deadline demands were not met.
In a Facebook video , they demanded that the National Assembly be dissolved before 3 PM on August 6th (4 PM Vietnam time), and also asked "revolutionary students to be ready" if the National Assembly was not dissolved by this deadline.
Meanwhile, regarding the formation of an interim government, the Bangladesh Daily Star quoted protest leader Nahid Islam as saying: "We will not accept any government other than the one proposed by the students."
According to this person, the student protest movement will not accept any military government, a government backed by the military, or a fascist government.
The leader of the protesters demanded that Bangladeshi President Mohammed Shahabuddin immediately take steps to restore law and order in the country, and said that the composition of the interim government would be announced.
Nahid Islam said: “We have decided that an interim government will be formed, in which Dr. Mohammad Yunus… who is widely accepted, will be the chief advisor.”
Noting that until a new government is formed, students need to continue taking to the streets to "defend their rebellion," the leader also stated that the student movement has nothing to do with the violence, attacks on mosques, looting, and vandalism in the recent protests, which have resulted in more than 100 deaths.
These statements were made a day after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country, and the military announced it was taking over power and preparing to form an interim government.
