Speaking at the opening session of the ASEAN Future Forum this morning, Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão affirmed that today is a particularly significant day as it marks the first time Timor Leste has participated in the forum as a full member of the ASEAN family. He thanked the Government of Vietnam and the Diplomatic Academy for initiating the ASEAN Future Forum to share visions of a peaceful, stable, and people-centered ASEAN future.

The Prime Minister of Timor Leste shared that the world is full of instability, the foundations of international law are facing many challenges, and the development of artificial intelligence could cause great harm to humanity. In this context, ASEAN remains an important entity for promoting dialogue. The story of Southeast Asia is complex, but ASEAN has shown that diversity is not a weakness but a source of strength.
"No nation can decide its own destiny alone; we need each other because cooperation makes us stronger. Timor Leste is ready to learn, contribute, and cooperate closely to build a peaceful and inclusive region," said Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão.
Earlier, on June 8th, Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão laid a wreath at the Monument to the Heroes and Martyrs (Bac Son Street), and also laid a wreath and paid respects at the Mausoleum of President Ho Chi Minh.
