According to the roadmap for implementing the 2018 General Education Program, 9th grade students in the 2024-2025 school year will be the first candidates to participate in the 10th grade entrance exam in 2025 with the orientation of the new program.

Regular 10th grade exam: Stable with 3 subjects: literature, math and foreign language

The high school entrance exam is always of interest to parents and students. Therefore, before the new school year, Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said that the 10th grade entrance exam in 2025 will be kept stable with 3 subjects: literature, math and foreign language.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will announce sample questions for each subject of the 10th grade entrance exam at the beginning of the school year, expected in October 2024. However, the level of differentiation and innovation of the exam questions for each subject will be calculated and adjusted by the department to suit teaching and learning in the direction of assessing students' abilities - closely following the goals of the 2018 General Education Program at the secondary level.

The head of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that in August, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will issue guidelines for the 10th grade high school entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year. In September, the exam method and content will be announced, and it is expected that around October, sample exam questions will be announced for each entrance exam subject so that teachers and schools can have guidelines for innovating teaching and testing and assessment closely following the direction of assessing students' abilities.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu emphasized that the 10th grade entrance exam based on student capacity assessment is not new to Ho Chi Minh City because over the past 10 years, from 2014 to present, Ho Chi Minh City has consistently implemented this goal.

In the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year, the Department of Education and Training will continue to resolutely implement the innovation of exam questions in the direction of assessing students' abilities. However, the exam questions in the direction of assessing learners' abilities will be more clearly demonstrated by Ho Chi Minh City, in accordance with the orientation of the 2018 General Education Program.

Specialized 10th grade admission: Changes in exam subjects

Regarding the entrance exam for 10th grade specialized education in 2025, the Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that the orientation of the Department of Education and Training is to replace specialized subjects in physics, chemistry, biology, history, and geography with specialized subjects in natural sciences, history and geography, in accordance with the 2018 General Education Program at the secondary level. However, at the high school level, there will be appropriate orientations for students in these specialized classes to choose the right specialized subjects in physics, chemistry, biology, history, and geography according to the 2018 General Education Program at the high school level, associated with career orientation.
