Philippines holds the number 1 position

Up to now, Vietnam has only 1 athlete who has not competed, Nguyen Thi Huong in canoeing. Although she is one of the brightest talents in domestic sports, her chance of winning a medal at the 2024 Olympics seems impossible. Thus, the possibility of Vietnam winning at least 1 medal at the Olympics this year is probably gone. This result is similar to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (taking place in 2021). The Philippines is leading the regional rankings thanks to Carlos Yulo's 2 gold medals in gymnastics. In addition, they also won 2 bronze medals in boxing thanks to Aira Villegas (women's 50kg) and Nesthy Petecio (women's 57kg).

Thailand also won a gold medal thanks to female taekwondo athlete Panipak Wongpattanakit in the 49kg weight class. This was a predictable result, because Panipak is the world's number 1 athlete in this weight class. Previously, prodigy Kunlavut Vitidsarn brought home the first Olympic silver medal in history for Thai badminton. In weightlifting, Silachai Theerapong also achieved a similar result when competing in the men's 61kg weight class. Thailand dominates at Olympics

Thailand is the most successful Southeast Asian country in Olympic history. They first won a medal in 1976, with the late Payao Poontarat winning a bronze in boxing. Since then, they have won a total of 40 medals, including 11 gold, 10 silver and 19 bronze. Since 1984, Thailand has always won at least one medal. Their most successful Olympics was in 2004, when they won three gold medals in weightlifting and boxing. Indonesia is the second most successful Southeast Asian country at the Olympics, having won eight gold medals, all in badminton. They have also won 14 silver and 16 bronze medals, for a total of 38 Olympic medals.

The Philippines only won its first gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics thanks to weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz.
