70 years ago, on August 8, 1954, the last French colonial expeditionary soldiers withdrew from Bac Ninh town after more than 5 years of reoccupation, and Bac Ninh town was completely liberated.

From 1975 to now, especially after nearly 30 years since Bac Ninh province was re-established, the city has returned to its position as the central urban area of ​​the province. The Party Committee, government and people of the city have united, joined hands, and unanimously exploited the potential and advantages, closely followed the orientation and planning, constantly innovated, been dynamic and creative, and transformed Bac Ninh city from a small urban area with low infrastructure, poor economy, and difficult people's lives into a strong transformation, breaking through and achieving many proud marks.

In nearly 15 years, from 2005 to 2017, Bac Ninh city has been upgraded to urban status 3 times (in 2005, it was recognized as a type III urban area; in 2014, it was a type II urban area; in 2017, it became one of 16 type I urban areas nationwide). The city's administrative boundaries have also been expanded 3 times, bringing the urban rate to 100%.

Bac Ninh City today is an urban area with relatively synchronous, civilized, modern infrastructure, rich in cultural identity, oriented towards a knowledge-based economy and smart urban area, with vibrant economic activities, high living standards, and is in the top group of the Hanoi Capital region and the whole country.

With an area of ​​82.6 square kilometers and a population of over 360,000 people, including over 20,000 foreigners residing and working in the area, the city affirms itself as a dynamic, integrated and developing central urban area.

The city's economic growth rate has always been maintained at a high level; the economic structure has shifted strongly towards urban economy, the proportion of trade-services, industry-construction currently accounts for more than 97%.

In 2023, total retail sales of consumer goods and services will reach more than 40,100 billion VND (accounting for nearly 50% of the province's total value), 98 times higher than in 1997; the value of the service industry will reach more than 28,200 billion VND, 295 times higher than in 1997; the value of industrial and construction production will reach nearly 153,000 billion VND, 234 times higher than in 1997.

Many people came to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the city's Liberation.

In recent years, the average state budget revenue in the area has reached more than 5,000 billion VND/year; the city budget revenue has reached more than 3,500 billion VND.

Average income per capita is over 140 million VND/year. Urban space is planned and developed in a sustainable direction. Urban infrastructure is heavily invested, a series of works of great scale, modernity and architectural highlights are invested and put into use.

The work of building and rectifying the Party and the political system has been carried out comprehensively in all aspects. The City Party Committee has been assessed for many consecutive years as "Excellently completing its tasks".

The education and training sector remains the leading unit of the province, worthy of the tradition of the homeland of scholars. Social security is given special attention, the poverty rate has decreased to 0.26%.

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Nguyen Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee affirmed: During the 70-year process of construction and development, especially in the cause of innovation, since Bac Ninh province was re-established (January 1, 1997) until now, the Party Committee, government and people of Bac Ninh city have united, joined hands, and overcome difficulties and challenges, exploited potentials and strengths; proactively innovated, seized opportunities; strived to compete and achieved many important achievements in socio-economic development; national defense and security; expanded foreign affairs; and built a strong Party and political system.

The Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee said that the province is striving to become a class I urban area by 2027 and a centrally-run city before 2030. In particular, Bac Ninh city is identified as the core urban area of ​​the core urban area, the central district and a regional growth pole, ensuring connectivity and promoting development between urban clusters and chains in the province and the Hanoi Capital region.
