From a "small town" to a dynamically developing community.
Seventy years ago, on August 8, 1954, the last French colonial troops withdrew from Bac Ninh town after more than five years of reoccupation, and Bac Ninh town was completely liberated.
In his commemorative speech, Comrade Ta Dang Doan, Secretary of the Bac Ninh City Party Committee, emphasized: This is a milestone in the history of the construction and development of Bac Ninh City, marking a turning point of great significance, opening up a new period of development, where the working people are masters of their own destiny, enthusiastically embarking on building a new society - a socialist society.
From 1975 to the present, especially in the nearly 30 years since Bac Ninh province was re-established, the city has regained its position as the central urban area of the province. The Party Committee, government, and people of the city have united, worked together, exploited potential and advantages, closely followed orientations and planning, and continuously innovated, been dynamic and creative, transforming Bac Ninh city from a small city with poor infrastructure, a struggling economy , and difficult living conditions for its people into a powerful city that has made significant breakthroughs and achieved many proud milestones.

In nearly 15 years, from 2005 to 2017, Bac Ninh city was upgraded three times (in 2005, it was recognized as a type III urban area; in 2014 as a type II urban area; and in 2017 as one of the 16 type I urban areas nationwide). The city also expanded its administrative boundaries threefold, bringing the urbanization rate to 100%.
Today, Bac Ninh City is a relatively well-developed, civilized, and modern urban area with rich cultural identity, oriented towards a knowledge-based economy and smart city, boasting vibrant economic activity and a high standard of living for its people, ranking among the top cities in the Hanoi Capital Region and the entire country.
With an area of 82.6 square kilometers and a population of over 360,000 people, including more than 20,000 foreigners residing and working in the city, the city affirms itself as a dynamic, integrated, and developing urban center.
The city's economic growth rate has consistently remained high; the economic structure has shifted strongly towards an urban economy, with the trade-service and industry-construction sectors currently accounting for over 97%.
In 2023, total retail sales of goods and consumer services reached over 40,100 billion VND (accounting for nearly 50% of the province's total value), 98 times higher than in 1997; the value of the service sector reached over 28,200 billion VND, 295 times higher than in 1997; and the value of industrial and construction production reached nearly 153,000 billion VND, 234 times higher than in 1997.

In recent years, the average state budget revenue in the area has reached over 5,000 billion VND/year; the city's budget revenue has reached over 3,500 billion VND.
The average per capita income is over 140 million VND/year. Urban spaces are planned and developed in a sustainable direction. Urban infrastructure is heavily invested in, with numerous large-scale, modern, and architecturally significant projects being invested in and put into use.
The work of building and rectifying the Party and the political system has been carried out comprehensively in all aspects. The city's Party Committee has been evaluated as "Outstanding in fulfilling its nhiệm vụ" for many consecutive years.
The education and training sector remains the leading unit in the province, living up to the tradition of a scholarly homeland. Social welfare receives special attention, with the poverty rate reduced to 0.26%.
Affirming its position as a "leading engine" and "breakthrough" in the province's development process.
Speaking at the commemoration ceremony, Comrade Nguyen Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee, affirmed: Throughout the 70 years of construction and development, especially during the period of reform, from the re-establishment of Bac Ninh province (January 1, 1997) to the present day, the Party Committee, government, and people of Bac Ninh city have united, worked together, overcome difficulties and challenges, exploited potential and strengths; proactively innovated, seized opportunities; and strived to achieve many important achievements in socio-economic development; national defense and security; expanded foreign relations; and building a strong Party and political system.

The Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee stated that the province is striving to become a Class I urban area by 2027 and a centrally-governed city before 2030. Specifically, Bac Ninh City is identified as the core urban area, serving as the central district and a regional growth pole, ensuring linkages and promoting development among urban clusters and chains within the province and the Hanoi Capital Region.
To successfully achieve the set goals and tasks, the Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee requested that Party committees, government agencies, officials, Party members, and the people of the city deeply understand the role and position of the city as a "leading engine," a "breakthrough driver," and a "driving force" in the process of building and developing Bac Ninh province. Emphasis should be placed on building a strong and comprehensive Party organization and political system; effectively implementing Resolution No. 25-NQ/TU, dated July 21, 2021, of the Provincial Party Standing Committee on building and developing Bac Ninh city until 2030, with a vision to 2045. At the same time, thorough preparations should be made for the successful organization of the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term.

At the same time, focus on implementing planning in a coordinated manner; mobilize maximum resources, expand urban space, and improve urban quality while preserving and promoting the cultural identity and people of Bac Ninh-Kinh Bac.
Promoting investment attraction for urban development; high-quality trade and services; large-scale tourism, entertainment, and recreation areas with diverse public amenities; strengthening digital transformation, smart manufacturing, and green development; creating intra-provincial and regional linkages; and providing impetus for rapid and sustainable development.
Comrade Nguyen Anh Tuan requested that the city pay serious attention to ensuring the landscape and ecological environment. Emphasis should be placed on developing culture, education, and healthcare for the people. Social welfare policies should be effectively implemented, and the city should be determined to eliminate poverty by 2024. Maintaining national defense and security, and creating favorable conditions for expanding foreign relations and socio-economic development, are crucial for the peace and happiness of the people.
At the event, delegates and the public enjoyed a spectacular art program themed "Bac Ninh City - Aspiration to Shine," featuring performances by renowned artists, and notably, a performance by 200 students from two high schools: Bac Ninh Specialized High School and Han Thuyen High School. The program also included a drone light show combined with artistic fireworks, depicting the historical, cultural, and achievement milestones of Bac Ninh City during its 70th anniversary of liberation.
