Welcoming the people of all ethnic groups and a large number of tourists to join in the celebration of the Bun Huot Nam New Year of the Lao people in Na Sang, comrade Nguyen Thai Binh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bien district, sent his best wishes and good luck to the Lao people, people and tourists with the hope that each person and each family will have more joy and success during the sacred festival imbued with the traditional identity of the Lao people.
With the desire for ethnic people and tourists to experience and feel the profound humanistic meaning in the traditional festival of the Lao people during the Bun Huot Nam New Year, the People's Committee of Dien Bien district and the Lao ethnic community in Na Sang commune organized rituals such as: worshiping, praying, tying wrist strings to pray for luck and organizing folk games; groups asking for water from house to house; worshiping the river god, stream god; bathing in the stream...
At Bun Huot Nam Festival, there is also a space to display and promote cultural-tourism products, handicraft products, Lao ethnic cuisine; agricultural products, local OCOP products; booths displaying items associated with the cultural life, labor, production, and community activities of Lao people in Nua Ngam commune.
Bun Huot Nam is a traditional New Year, and also one of the main festivals of the Lao ethnic community, held annually in mid-April. Celebrating Bun Huot Nam, every child of the Lao ethnic community wishes to pray for favorable weather and wind for a bountiful harvest; for all things to grow and develop. Also during the "Bun Huot Nam" New Year, by splashing water on each other, Lao people believe that it will wash away the bad luck of the old year and hope that in the new year, luck will come to family members and the community.
Previously, on April 13, 2018, the People's Committee of Dien Bien province held a ceremony to announce and award the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Certificate for the Water Splashing Festival (Bun Huot Nam) of the Lao people, Na Sang 1 village, Nua Ngam commune, Dien Bien district. Celebrating the Water Splashing Festival once a year, the Lao people of Na Sang 1 village remind their descendants of the good traditions, the solidarity and closeness in the community and also thereby instill the spirit of love for work and production.
