This activity is part of a series of events commemorating the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union (July 28, 1929 - July 28, 2024) and celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).
According to Nguyen Xuan Hoan, Chairman of the Hanoi Agriculture and Rural Development Sector Trade Union, in implementing the policy of the Hanoi City Federation of Labor (LĐLĐ) on establishing Trade Union Libraries, the sector's trade union conducted surveys of enterprises with a large number of workers to understand the cultural and spiritual life and reading needs of workers, including Hanoi Irrigation Development Investment Company Limited.
Through surveys, assessments of potential bookshelf installation locations, and understanding the needs and opinions of workers, the Standing Committee of the Hanoi Agriculture and Rural Development Sector Trade Union has agreed on the policy of establishing one Trade Union Bookshelf at Hanoi Irrigation Development Investment Company Limited and other bookshelfs at affiliated grassroots trade unions.
The Trade Union of Hanoi Irrigation Development Investment Company Limited implemented a Trade Union Library project, costing 10 million VND, funded by the Hanoi City Federation of Labor. The new library is equipped with a diverse collection of books on legal education and dissemination, including over 50 titles such as: the Labor Code, the Trade Union Law, the Social Insurance Law, materials on relevant policies and regulations, books on culture, history, literature, life skills, and entertainment.
Speaking at the event, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor Unions, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, said that the establishment of the Union's Library at the company for workers demonstrates the concern and responsibility of the Labor Union organization in caring for its members and workers; and at the same time promotes a reading culture among workers.
To ensure the effective operation of the Trade Union Library, the Vice Chairman of the Hanoi City Federation of Labor Unions suggested that the Hanoi Agriculture and Rural Development Sector Trade Union and the Hanoi Irrigation Investment and Development Company Limited Trade Union be responsible for preserving, promoting, and disseminating information to all union members and employees of the Company so that they can access, utilize, and read books and newspapers in a practical and effective manner. At the same time, they should encourage cadres, union members, and employees to contribute good books from their personal collections to make the Library increasingly diverse and spread a reading culture throughout the Company.
Also on the afternoon of August 7th, more than 60 union members and workers of Hanoi Irrigation Development Investment Company Limited enjoyed a "Union Meal" organized by the Hanoi Agriculture and Rural Development Trade Union in coordination with the company. Each meal was worth 175,000 VND, of which the Hanoi Agriculture and Rural Development Trade Union contributed 50,000 VND/meal, the company contributed 100,000 VND/meal, in addition to the usual daily meal allowance of 25,000 VND/meal for workers. The dishes were diverse, of higher quality than usual, and ensured food safety.
At the "Trade Union Meal," employees of Hanoi Irrigation Development Investment Company Limited were happy not only because of the more lavish meal than usual, but also because of the friendly atmosphere and the care shown by the company's leadership and the trade union. Everyone listened, exchanged ideas, and shared experiences to increase understanding and strengthen the bond between employees and employers.
