Electricity consumption has decreased sharply.
According to statistics from Ho Chi Minh City's electricity sector, the number of residential electricity customers in the 5th and 6th price tiers decreased by an average of approximately 10.76% in July compared to April and May. The city's total electricity consumption also decreased sharply.
Specifically, the number of residential electricity customers in tier 6 (401 kWh or more, with an electricity price of 3,015 VND excluding VAT) decreased by 11.3% (equivalent to 270,000 customers).
This is clearly reflected in the amount of electricity customers pay. In July, many customers saw their bills drop to just a few hundred thousand to over one million VND per month. In contrast, this amount was typically two to three times higher in April and May.
The main reason for the sharp decrease in high-demand electricity consumption is attributed to the rainy season in Ho Chi Minh City and the Southern region. The weather is now cooler, with low outdoor temperatures at night and in the early morning.
Therefore, the need for cooling devices has decreased. In particular, even the most energy-intensive appliance, the air conditioner, no longer needs to be used at low temperatures for extended periods.
Besides objective factors, a subjective reason is that the people of Ho Chi Minh City have practiced electricity saving well, making it a habit in their daily lives.
Households have been using energy-labeled electrical appliances to save electricity. They regularly turn off electrical appliances when leaving a room and completely disconnect the power supply when not in use.
This is the result of long-term campaigning and promotion by the electricity sector and local organizations.
Customers can view the metrics via the app.
According to Mr. Bui Trung Kien, Deputy General Director of Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation, currently 100% of electricity customers in Ho Chi Minh City have been equipped with remote metering devices.
Remote metering systems not only collect electricity readings remotely to calculate electricity bills for customers but also provide additional information related to electricity usage.
Customers can receive alerts about unusual increases/decreases in electricity consumption, as well as warnings about operating parameters such as current, voltage, and power factor, through the EVNHCMC CSKH application.
From there, customers can proactively develop a plan for rational and economical electricity usage. A highlight of this application is that customers will see a graph of electricity consumption by day. This data helps customers understand the days with the highest and lowest usage so they can adjust their electricity usage behavior.
"We always urge customers to cooperate with the electricity industry in implementing electricity saving measures. This needs to be done regularly, not just during the hot season," Mr. Kien said.
