Hoc Mon Cemetery, Ho Chi Minh City is the resting place of more than 200 armored and infantry martyrs of the 3rd Corps. In 1975, soldiers attacked from Tay Ninh, Cu Chi, along Highway 22 to capture the Puppet General Staff and Tan Son Nhat Airport. Many people sacrificed their lives on the morning of April 30, 1975 - before the moment of total victory.
Fifty years after the war, the country has changed a lot, the great war has receded into the past, but the portrait of Hero Ngo Van Nho of the 203rd Tank Brigade, 2nd Corps is still a beautiful image, shining with the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in today's era. The crew of the documentary Before the Complete Victory returned to his hometown in Thang town, Hiep Hoa district, Bac Giang province to learn and feel more for the film about a hero of the Tank Brigade who went down in the history of the nation in the long march to liberate the country.
Mrs. Quach Thi Loan was the wife of martyr Ngo Van Nho during the fierce war years, and crossed Truong Son to the South to visit her husband. The war has been over for half a century, but in Mrs. Quach Thi Loan's mind, the pain of losing her husband has not yet subsided...
The portrait of the hero is also portrayed through the story of Colonel and writer Nguyen Khac Nguyet. Mr. Nho's comrade expressed noble feelings when writing about Chief Ngo Van Nho in the novel Only Love is Left.
Documentary Before the Victory airs at 9:15 a.m. on April 29, rebroadcast at 8:15 a.m. on May 3 on VTV9.
During the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, Captain Ngo Van Nho, Battalion Commander of Battalion 1, Tank Regiment 203 (Army Corps 2) was assigned to command the battalion to attack the enemy at the highway bridge (Dong Nai). This was a very important bridge, the enemy's last shield at the gateway to Saigon. Therefore, the enemy arranged a dense defense system, determined to block our attack. They arranged more than a dozen tanks, armored vehicles and infantry to guard the bridge, many vehicles were stationed right on the bridge surface, some were buried in the ground, only their gun barrels were raised. Under the river, enemy warships fired heavily towards the bridge.
The bridge was arched, so it was easy for the enemy to observe our formation, while it was very difficult for us to observe the enemy. Therefore, our three tanks in the lead were all shot and burned by them, the smoke and fire made the formation behind them congregate, unable to move forward. In that situation, sitting on the tank, Battalion Commander Ngo Van Nho immediately opened the car door, leaned forward to observe the enemy and command the unit to cross the bridge. In the rain of bullets, the image of the commander proudly shouting the order: "Aim straight at Saigon! Forward!" was the driving force that urged the whole battalion to charge forward. However, a series of enemy bullets hit him, blood stained his hat and shirt, Battalion Commander Ngo Van Nho heroically sacrificed himself right on the tank turret, not far from the gate of the Independence Palace, just a few hours before the hour of total victory.
